its comes down to this:

ik have a northwood proc en a ASUS P4S333 board. and of course i want to overclock this baby. and i'd probly want to increase the core voltage to 1.75+ , so i need some good cooling.

On my last AMD XP machine i used a Maze2 watercooling system with a bong. that worked pretty well, and i wanted to use it on my northwood. but thats a no go as u might know. there are no hole's round the socket478 that can fit a Maze2.

so i have to options, ether i can buy a sockter 478 convertor for my maze. wich is quite hard to find where i lieve.

or ik can get one of these huge monsters:

i've seen a lot of ppl here, that have Overclocked there northwood up to 2.6ghz with simple spire or even intel stock coolers. so i think that the MCX478 can do the job right.

what do u think?

PS, if i do get a Swiftech MCX478, i'd replace the Delta fan with a paps, or something les noisy.

I used to have a Swiftech MC462-A, till i cut it in half and put it on my GF3 (now dead, until i can fix it...) . The MC462 outperforms the MCX. The Swifties outperform low end water cooling solutions.

1 2 3 4 5

1: Low End Air Cooling
2: Medium Air Cooling
3: High End Air / Low End Water
4: Medium Water
5: High End Water Cooling.

the swifty would be a "3"

yes but the question is which of the 5 cooling solutions do i really need?

i'm not about to set 2 volts trouw my northwood, but i do want a nice 40-50% overclock. that can be reached with 1.7volt (it think)

I would contact Dangerden and ask them what it would cost to ship the Socket 478 Hold Down to your neck of the woods.

They list the adapter for $14.00

PS Antman, OMG you killed your Swifty Modded GF3

We begged you not to cut that HSF up and you see what happened.....The Swifty curse caught up with you.

Seriously though......Sorry to hear of your misfortune :(

Its not dead. It still runs, but it gives me problems when it uses higher memory areas (IE on bootup on XP where there is higher resolution, or when using the Matrox HDD Diag (Powermax), which also uses a higher res) I get 4 lines in a group, and each group is 3.5inches apart. I want to test the damn thing, but i gotta fix it first :/

Going with Sam.

It's hard to see a block go to waste, so you should get the maze P4-Hold down. Water will do much better then air obviously, and if your going to be pumping 1.75v, I would only suggest that on water.

well, i'd really love to WC too, but its going to be very hard for me to get the maze P4-Hold down. i live in holland, and i can only order it from the US its going to cost me about 30.-$ to get it.

but i was thinking of making one my self. its shouldn't be that hard, its just a peace of aluminuim cut in the right sizes with a few holes in it. right?

Take a look at this:

You can copy a design like that with plexi glass. They have the holds for the fittings, then they have a little hold with a plastic bolt, which is turned to a bolt to secure the block once its going to use those four things.

Good Luck w/ it.

tnx, man, thats really helpfull. i think i can make that. :)

It shouldn't be hard at all, just plexi glass with holes, a screw downbolt, and bolts + nuts to secure the glass.

Your just going to need to spend sometime on it to get it good, as it may take alot of calculating the holes for the Northwood, of find some kind of site that tells you the Northwood holes lenght, width, etc.

Good Luck Again!

I just ordered one of those P4 adapters for my Maze2-1. I cant wait to see how cool it can keep a northwood 2.0. You best bet is to make a plexi adapter or see how much dangerden will charge for shipping to your area. The swifty is a fine heatsink but water is still more efficeint especially with high wattage CPUs.
