Because of this experience... I never even ATTEMPTED to play World of Warcraft. (I could see my whole life just VANISHING...)
I felt WoW was a pathetic ripoff of the MMOs popular before them (most were from Asia, so most people in the West didn't know some of them existed), and they introduced really bad graphics, worse than that of some older games. Still, they pushed sales with a huge marketing budget, and people followed. When it was released, we got 2 weeks free at work. 15 or 16 people checked it. 1 kept playing, and others were complaining and went back to Lineage 2 ... nothing better than 500 people castle sieges at 1-30FPS :ROFLMAO:

Yeah I never even ATTEMPTED to play it. To me that game was Blizzard's downfall. A log cash grab that prevented them from working on the games they SHOULD'VE been working on like Warcraft IV and an infinite number of Starcraft games.

They missed the boat... they missed the train... they messed up.

All newer blizzard games are mediocre at best. All series peaked ~20 years ago. I'm surprised they never tried to release a new Starcraft as people still play it and it's so old. On the other hand, maybe better if they don't even try as it will look like everything else they did in the last few years.

I was counting on finally having something to play, but Civ VII is just another disappointment, and I don't think there is any other game this year I am waiting for.

No point in a new StarCraft, the story is finished 🤷🏻‍♂️ As to WoW , it's still ongoing with millions of players online, 10 expansions and 2 more in production, and people still rave about the original 20yo version which you can still play in separate servers. All MMOs are rip-offs of other games in one way or another, I mean, D&D was mostly Tolkien, WoW and FF were lifted from D&D and Lovecraft, StarCraft was a direct rip from WH40k, WH40K Tyranids were based off the xenomorph in Alien, etc etc etc...

I'm still playing a heavily modded Civ5 and have no intentions of going newer for now.

I don't know who in their right minds would take Civ VII over ANY of the games on that list... but thanks for the heads up!

Kingdom Come Deliverance II disappeared almost instantly, so I guess people wanted it (I didn't like it). However, I think most of these games were promising but turned into disappointments.

To be fair, KCD2 is the current highest rated game of the year and had a bunch of hype coming out. I think plenty will find it not for them (I haven't played it or the first one, but did get the 1st free on EGS so may try it at some point)

I don't think Indiana Jones or Spider-Man 2 could be labeled as "disapointments".... Certainly not in terms of sales.

And... as you said... they're already sold out of Deliverance II. So there's obviously a demand there.

I'm just saying I can't imagine that happening with Civ VII.

But Spider-Man 2 was obviously nominated for multiple Game of the Year awards and Indiana Jones will be as well.

Spider-Man was nominated before the premiere, so it doesn't count ;) Indiana Jones is "not bad," and fans may especially like it. However, for me, it's disappointing because graphics are pretty bad for a quite short game where 50% of the playtime take cut scenes.
KCD2 has good reviews, but I still find it meh. My brother plays it, and somehow he likes it, even though he complains.
We already know about Civ VII. STALKER 2 received mostly bad reviews after its release. I guess they have patched it since then, as I see mostly good right now.

Still, all these games made a lot of noise in the last months, so I guess it's a good promo.

I love Civ VI. I play it a lot and in fact have an active game going now. However, I got it free from Epic.

My thought is that you are going to upset people if you change it and other people if you keep it the same. My thought is keep it the same. You have a built in audience from the old successful game. Keep your loyal customers in mind when creating new. If you only think about the people who didn't buy your game, well then, you might have a disaster on your hands.

So you gave me Civ VI for free to entice me into the DLC and/or the next version. Great! But then make the new version something that I recognize from the old game.

I don't know if I'll get the new one or not.
