I hope you have this resolved. I started to just skim after a bit but something that jumps out at me is how you installed the OS.

Note: The OS key will be saved in your BIOS/UEFI, so you will not need a key.

I don't like the notion that they sent you a drive with the OS installed already. Nor do I care for a "repair" install on top of that. I would install from scratch so that it only picks up the hardware that you currently have.

However, if you got it working, what I like or don't like is moot. ("Moot" because I don't know how to spell irrelevent. See. Misspelled.)

Is there a bios update available?

Just checked. A little strange - MSI only has one BIOS release so far, the one currently installed. However, MSI's own program shows it has a release date of Feb. 01 2024 and their site says it was released Mar. 10.

Should mention - *I* didn't install the OS. Main drive was swapped at the shop and clean install was done there.

Xotic is actually semi reputable and I want to say a recommended MSI vendor. Like I mentioned I'll do a clean install if needed, just waiting to see if the issue pops up again.

Test programs prime95 Cinebench.

Already did Prime95, as well as Memtest86+, loops of 3DMark and PCMark, and drive scans through the Samsung and WD utilities.

Little update, laptop locked up again yesterday afternoon. Tech recommended disabling fast boot in Windows but might just jump straight into the full OS reinstall first, just get that done with.

Update: Didn't do the Windows install yet, but disabled windows fast boot. Locked up yesterday with a slight change. Was watching a h.265 rip in VLC, the change being I wasn't interacting with it. Buzz through the laptop speakers.

Update 2: They came back yesterday and admitted doing a full OS reinstall is the next step to eliminate software issues. Tried it today during a bit of downtime at work and...It's asking for a W11 key instead of just pulling the OEM key.

Update 3: they said to check the laptop for a Windows key.

Just admit you guys f'd up and gimme an RMA number. Not even bothered to do a full reimage now.

So update. Yes minor thread Necro.

Haven't sent it in, but I'm thinking this is a power issue, partially solved with driver updates.

For the past week, I've been using it plugged in and it didn't lock up at all. The twenty minutes or so I used it on battery, one hard lock and one blue screen.

Again nothing in the windows event log, but I did see MSI pushed out a few new bios updates since I last checked so I'll try that next.

Yeah. I think that you're giving the seller too much leeway. The problem should be theirs not yours. You've spent a lot of time trying to make this work and what I understand of their response, they are just throwing crap against the wall and seeing what sticks. Cut your loss and send it back. Full refund or replacement.
