Depends what CPU(AMD or Intel) you are using. For an Athlon, you certainly don't want to be above 50C, and actually as far below that as possible.

Oh really, wow, I am currently using a AMD XP 1600 1.4ghz (not overclocked) with a Thermaltake 6cu+ and the CPU temp is running at 53c and the motherboard is at about 38c

What mobo do you have, some motherboards are guilty of reporting false temperatures, the best way to monitor temperatures is with a DigitalDoc5 or compuNures or the like.

xp temp

Welcome to the forums!

I aim to keep my XP below 40C and in the mid 30's if possible.

temps

Asus probes are know for reporting temps in the neighborhood of 10C higher than they actually are.

proggys

MBM does clock speed and % cpu useage. You can even tell it to compensate on the temps by X degrees.

WCPUID is another one for clock speed and cpu info. Check www.AOAfiles.com for lots of useful OC programs.
