Am I right in making a blanket statement that tighter timings yeild better real world performance than raw, memory clock freq?

If so, your results should apply to any set of modules and even the SAME SET of modules.

FYI since your in Jersey, I just got a set of the linked memory, which was shipped from Neweggs Edison NJ facility, and it also contained the 50D UTT chips.

<Rubbing my hands together> My Twinmos TMII400 was shipped last night from Edison..... man I hope this is the good stuff. :)

Not entirely true unless you mean clock for clock.... if you can go fast enough on the fsb you can make up for most if not all of the latancy loss.

Well how far does the LL TCCD go before you have to throttle back the 2-2-2-5 timings?

Depends, most will do around 220mhz at 2-2-2, but I have heard of others getting them to around 240 with increased voltage, like 3.1v. I never tried higher voltage on mine, simply because they run too hot. I don't want to fry a $240 set of memory just to SEE if it can do it. Ah hell, what am I talking about...maybe I'll try it today!

225 is about average. I can hit 223 on my Patriot XBL and 227 on OCZ EL Rev 2.

awesome, did you get a chance to play with them yet?

I'm |-| that close to ordering them.. the only thing thats keeping me back is that since I'm in NJ, I pay tax for newegg which would make that kit run me $150, while the Speed Premium from chiefvalue would be $160

but if they perform the same, I'll save myself the $10

Very interesting! This only makes deciding what ram to get more complicated, but complications like this are a good thing.

That $10 could get you the brainpower pcb instead of another kind. I have heard that the Speed premiums come with brainpower pcb's. I have no way to verify this though. Mine don't say brainpower, is there another way I can tell?

Ask it some very difficult questions and see if it knows the answers. This will determine how smart it is. LOL (I'm sorry, I just can't resist these cheap gags. I'm addicted and I need help!)

Well, I tried that. The only thing that happened was my girlfriend recommending that I seek professional help. Off to the padded room I go!!!

-Collin-

So this means your girlfriend will be alone tonight?
Okay, I'll stop before they carry me away to a padded roon!!!
(Besides I'm old enough to be your girlfriends father)

If you really are interested, I can deflate my girlfriend any time and ups her to you. You pay shipping though!!!

LOL....funny stuff!

Brainpower PCBs are usually shorter than the other stuff. My GSkill is on Brainpower and teh TCCD chips are very close to the top edge. Somewhere there was pictures of the brainpower vs JDEC and how to tell the differences. I will have to dig for them.

My Patriot XBL runs at 240MHz 2-3-3-6 1T w/ 2.8v. See if your Pats will do that and then compare the two. That way the timings vs. clock speed is a little closer.

I'm just wondering if this comparison is any help to me, just because of the wildly different timings and clock speed. Like someone else said I wonder if any chips would have results similar to these.

Skeen,

Is that an NV chipset or a VIA on your MoBO?
My XBLK runs at 246 MHz 2.5-3-3-6-1T.

I'm quite sure the chipset plays a role in these tests. Hazarding a guess I say the NV's outpreform the VIA's in this regard.

Actually I'm using a NF7-S, but I hope this doesn't invalidate my point. Right now I think I could go a little higher with the timings I specified but I'm running into a chipset barrier and I need to do the vdd mod.

In any case I'm not comparing my results with you fellas, I just thought it might be a better comparison. After all, when I do move to A64, I'd like to keep the RAM I have, and so I still have a vested interest in this comparison.

what kindda votage are u guys running these things @? if it's over 2.8 then every one who uses these will have problem because most boards won't go over that, unless you do some kindda mod.
