ok, Temp controlled fans sound like a good idead, right? Right, but they are completely dependant on the positioning of the temp probe. Right now I have two temp controlled fans in my case.

One is in my enermax PS, there's is hardly ANY airflow out of that thing, and then theres my 120 mm intake, once again VERY little airflow.

Now, the enermax I'm not going to deal with right now.

It's the 120 that irks me, because, well, frankly I know I could get alot better airflow out of it, it's basing it's Rpms on the temp of the air at it's coldest point in my case, WHERE it enters it. , which means it runs at a consistently low speed. sure the fan runs quiet, but I don't care, because I can't hear anything over the noise from my dragon orb. Feeling like getting a volcano 7 and having the speed adjuster.

Any one know how I can either just work around the thermistor on the fan, or where I'd best be able to place it if I stuck it on more wire, or if I can jsut clip it, or SOMETHING?

also, getting that enermax fan running faster would be nice.

right now my case temps are pretty low though, but I want them lower, because lower case temps, should hopefully mean lower CPU temps.

got advice? got questions? got suggestions?

Suggestions:

Stick the thermistor in your hsf's fins. Its plenty warm in there.

Clip the thermistor and reconnect the wires for full speed. Or clip it and install a rheostat.

For your PSU, use a 3 to 4 pin adapter and plug its fan into a molex. That kicked my Enermax psu's fan up to speed. Or clip off the thermistor and reconnect the wires.

so clipping the thermistor off and just making a connection where it used to be is a viable solution that will just have it run at full speed? in that case, that may be something I'll be doing, and I'll try the 3pin to 4 pin thing

On the Enermax, if you have the black/white wire plugged into a fan header, unplug it. You should see an immediate improvement.

was about to try that, just noticed, ummmmmm, that's not plugged in, oops. but yet air comes out and I can see , fan spins, sooo.... ? confused here

I think the rear psu fan doesn't need to be plugged in at all, like it's got its source of power direct from the psu already, but that if it's plugged into a 3 pin header on the motherboard, then it uses the temperature adjusted speed control from that little resistor.

Here's my take on that, i'll be temp controlled whether or not it's plugged into the mobo, but if you plug it into the mobo you can monitor the rpms, have I guessed that right? either way, if I want it full speed, I ditch the thermisotr somehow

Yup, sounds like a good plan to me. I'll cut my thermistor off this AM, amongst some other mods. No rpm-reading fan headers left on my mobo though, oh well.

I'm thinking not necesarilly cutting off the thermistor, but maybe putting it on the end of a longer set of wires, so that I can place it where the temp that should regulate it are, and if that doesn't work, I'll clip it entirely
