CPU Temp Reaches 90 degrees then cuts out. help plz

Hi,

im running :

Athlon xp 2200 with Asus A7N8X mobo
Asus Geforce 4 ti4600
512 DDR
WIN 2000

im using the default fan and heatsink that came with the processor. i have a 120mm Fan stuck right next to my graphics card , and a 80mm Coolermaster chassis fan placed on the back of the case.

i dont know why the cpu temp is so high. im having to run the clock speed at 1800 instead of 2200 just to cool it down to 85... the cpu fans running at 5000 rpm on the bios.

can anyone tell me the problem? and a possible solution?

make sure the cpu fan is plugged in and spinning, and that the clip is mounted properly.

um lol had the heatsink placed the wrong way round

it looks wrong way round .. i swear

there should be a notch on one end of the heatsink so that it fits over the end of the socket.

yes, somechips cook at 85°C

did you crack the core with the hs like that?


oh probably not 'cause it was hitting the socket.
