I'm seeing 40-43*c at idle.. this seems a bit high to me (i have the xigmatek dark knight cooler) Should i re-apply thermal paste?

Post pic's of both CPU-Z open to the CPU tab, and either Core Temp or Real Temp showing the current core temp's.

Its now @ 36*c average after re-applying thermal paste according to realtemp

What is a reasonable range of voltage for a 21x200 overlock (4189mhz) ? I'm at 1.317 and testing.

That's probably about right for 4.2GHz; maybe a hair less. Run Prime small ffts and see what happens. Mine runs 4.2GHz with 1.28v so if your successful running Prime, I would try lowering voltage to see if you maintain stability.

If you're running a single fan on the cooler, you're going to need to watch load temps closely.

1.282 volts, but 1.317 at load, 82*c seems to be max temp after 5 minutes - stopped test because i don't like seeing temps above 80?

Now at 1.29v and stable so far (10 minutes into OCCT stability test) with temps reaching 74*c so far on 200x21. Would you say that's good? Any lower on the voltage will result in instability.

82c is fine, but you want the least voltages possible and then up it one from that setting for a buffer. Less volts=less heat. It seems like I get +10c for every .1 bump in voltage.

What is your CPU VTT, QPI VTT, and DRAM?

Idle temps of 40-43C are fine. Don't forget the i7 920 is a 130W CPU so it runs hotter than what you're used to seeing but it can take that heat.
