well i've been noticing a lot of new people cruising this area of the forum as of late, which is great. i think a little while ago there was a 'post your desktop' thread, probably in the general discussion. well i think it would be cool if everyone, especially those new Alt-Os people in our ranks would post your linux or unix screenshots. these are things that personally i find it cool to see...how other people have their desktops set up.

to take a screenshot, just use the "screen shooter" applet included with your installation...it comes with redhat, i assume it is standard with all distros.

here's mine: redhat 7.2 with the ximian gnome upgrade-

Well I haven't been using linux that much lately - I am frustrated with my mouse problems in KDE and GNOME. Looks like time for a reinstall. Well here it is anyway, to eat some bandwidth :D

yeah, the bandwidth thing didn't even occur to me...since i link to my pictures anyways. either way we can leave this thread up for a couple days and ask speedj to remove it.

btw nice looking desktop david...tho i'm not so much of a desktop icon fan, in windows or linux, i don't know why. i'm more of a fan of quicklaunch icons and the panel menu :)

Its the standard SuSE 7.3 install desktop. Time for a reinstall methinks. Tomorrow.

I wish I could get a higher resolution than 1024x762 on my notebook, or if framebuffering was suppored by my video card so i could do alpha rendering. I tried to show some off the stuff mine can do. All the desktop icons are vector drawn, so they look clear at any size. I like drop down menus so i can segregate the windows apps and terminal server connections. And it is snowing here on April 2nd.

snowed here all day yesterday. your probably getting the leftovers. where do you guys go to get all of the cool themes an are they easy to set up. I'm still a newbie so don't laugh too hard.

themes.org

Although their website majorly sucks there are a few decent ones, but most of them are pure crap. I'm using the defaut gnome theme, antarctic sawfish theme, and the scalable gorilla nautilus theme.

There's usually a themes installer in the settings menu.

i know its not linux, but i do fool with mandrake 8.2. ill post a pic of it after i get used to it. heres my win desktop:

malakai nice background bro.

I have to say I have some disliking with the KDE and GENOME interface mainly KDE with the panel icons it seems you cannot change them.

The themes available on XP though they are not allowed by windows :) are alot better.

Hey Jeff nice D-Top you seem to be a big DBZ fan. I hope you are a fan of the Japanese original DBZ heheh. I have all the tapes of all the movies and eps.

yes i am, i've seen some of the jap episodes but unfortunately most i see is the funimation-edited kiddy stuff. as far as my desktop goes, i cannot stand to have stuff that doesn't match (its just a pet peeve of mine). so if i have a wallpaper, the winamp/xmms skin better match or i'm finding a new one. that vegita skin went nicely with my background IMO.

here are links to older desktop pics of mine...more DB/DBZ of course

Here is my desktop.. I don't want to lie to you all, my desktop is always cluttered, so I just took a shot of what it always looks like. ;-) The girl in the corner is mine though, so.. hands off. LOL. This is an 800x600 shot of my 1600x1200 desktop, I've got fullsize if anyone wants a closer look -- its nothing special though.
