those XS guides are already linked to at the bottom of the guide. next week i should be able to find some time to sit down and do some more formatting, so i'll call out those links better.

Updated prices and a few picks. Added the Nvidia 8800 cards to point out that DX10 cards are now here.

I noticed that the XtremeSystems buyers guides appear to have been deleted, does anyone know their updated links?

*edit: i also wanted to point out that all the santa ana AM2 chips had huge drops in their prices since last month.

# AMD Opteron 1210 - $171.99
# Asus M2N-E nForce 570 Ultra - $93.99
# TeamGroup 1gb DDR2 800 TXDD1024M800HC4 - $161.98

That combined is not 503,98 but 427.96 ;)

Nice guide though, helpfull :)

I would probably stay away from reccomending anything other than DFI boards for Opterons since thus far they are the only boards which support opterons support.

Liquid3d couldn't make his opteron boot in his Asus

ah thanks, i forgot to update that when I updated the prices.

And thanks for pointing out the trouble with the AM2 boards, Speed Bump. I didn't see that Liquid3d was having troubles, but it makes sense. Hopefully, the problem will be fixed when Asus does a bios update.

No, no specific reason. I did mention Seagate in the hard drive section, tho I did not specifically mention the 7200.10. Since the hard drive doesn't necessarily play a key factor in how well a system overclocks, I didn't want to linger on the subject. The 7200.10's are great drives, as are the western digitals. I'm thinking on my next update I'm just going to change the HD suggestion to the WD Raptor, even though the price is rather high per gb.

Won't work. You have to get DDR2.

ddr2 as mentioned, and should be dual channel. you can get 3gig using all 4 slots, but I would suggest 2x1gig sticks, or 4x1gig sticks of ddr2-800

SN: thanks for the sticky.

prices updated. made a few swaps due to new releases and stock changes at Newegg.

just updated the PSU ranking list a la Oklahoma Wolf. An update to the guide should be coming within the next day or 2.

major update. dropped the socket 939 opteron and the pentium d 805. reworded a few sections and I decided i'd include links to all products even to make things easier on everyone.

Is there some way of keeping a record of the old guide as you do each upgrade to the guide? Maybe copy it into a post or make its own thread.
