Necro... BUT...!

Rendering the same image, with the same CPU (100MHz lower than first run http://www.overclockers.com/forums/...ENDER-THREAD?p=7991463&viewfull=1#post7991463), but using version 2.79 of Blender instead of 2.78 netted me almost 9 seconds (25% faster)!

I had virtually the same experience with my Ryzen 7 1700X with almost a 10 second gain using ver 2.79 while running 100 MHz slowet.

always use the latest blender, every version gets faster, sometimes a lot faster.
