This is about the Asus A7V mainboard. I remember reading in this forum about thermal sensors and bending them so that they make better contact with back of the CPU ceramic. I just had my CPU out and I cannot see a sensor in the socket! Where is it?? There is nothing in the center except some components and a small area with 2 solder contacts. Is there suppose to be a sensor soldered into the center?
It's reading a sensor somewhere!

the thermistor on the a7v is a surface-mount device (smd) component, so there's nothing to bend up.. it's firmly soldered to the board. if you're feeling adventurous, i suppose you could de-solder the smd and replace it with a normal thermistor of the same value.. dunno if anyone's ever tried that actually.. hmmm...

it's also quite easy to make a thermal probe yourself.. have a look at the main page under the miscellaneous section for more info.

So if the smd sensor is roughly 1/4" away from the ceramic backing of the core, can we assume that the temp readings are adjusted to reflect what the designers 'think' the actual temp will be?
And since there is a small gap between the socket and the board there may be environmental issues which differ from one set-up to the next. So such 'guestimations' would be flawed!

yeah, there's no doubt it's not ideal... but there's also not much we can do about it. unless you feel like removing and replacing it.. ;-)

buy a digital thermometer, or make a probe if you already have a dmm, and measure your temps with that.
