Probably wouldn't matter. Your performance is mainly going to depend on your storage subsystem.

Why not update the dell slightly and then sell that to your sister. Make things easier and your out of pocket expense is less leaving you more $ for your new comp.

Use what you got. My file server is a K6-2 400@450mhz. It will get upgraded to a P3-800 once I solder some new caps on that board. I have a Pii-350 that I am going to build for my brothers File server. I also have a XP2400 that needs a use (multimedia/dvr) once I Get the rest of the parts. Use the parts you have. It's cheaper and a crying shame to see such nice old parts no longer in use....
