I'm thinking about building a computer for my brother. My real question would be what AMD cpu can I overclock like my XP 1700 TBred?

I Got my 2800 Barton up to 2330MHz on my cheap old P.S. and ram. runs stable temps are good between 108 f and 111 f. if you dont want to spend that much if you can find a unlocked 2500+ Barton ive heard those are very good to oc. both are very nice with both having the 512 cache.

im not sure about any other chips i had a 2000+ but it was never oc'ed since the board was junk. i hope this may help you a lil. Good luck and i hope you find the one you are looking for

This is getting old guys. It's not really difficult to figure out this post belongs in the AMD cpu section. I am close to reaching the end of my patience with this, a point at which I simply delete posts on sight that are in the wrong category.

there are 2 i saw for sale on ebay, but the prices were getting exorbitant

you're better off calling around computer shops or something

i got my unlocked from newegg and i seen around more people are getting unlocked ones from newegg. probly call them up and ask them to. i called them the other day and it was a real peson to not a press 1 for this which was nice to hear and i asked them about a CPU and right away they answerd it. othewr than that like Lostshoe said try calling some local shops see what they got

I have unlocking kit at home. Maybe I can unlock it.

Looking at your sig dead_man311, you were only able to overclock your barton to 2.3Ghz? It's not as extreme overclock as 700Mhz - 1Ghz w/ 1700 Tbreds

the barton/tbred core maxes out about 2.5ghz on air. doesn't matter if its a 1700 tbred or a 3200 barton. both will max about the same. this is why you see alot of people buy the slowest cpu of a new generation. a la 2.4c when the 800fsb intel chips were released. cheaper and about the same overclockability as the 3.0c.
