Thinking of a new build, this is what I've come up with.

So I'm in the market to rebuild my old gaming desktop into something that will be fierce for the next few years. I play at 1920X1080 on a 40" Samsung LCD, I want what I get right now to be overkill for this resolution so that in the future it will have room to expand. My limit was 500$, but I already have a powersupply, case, Hard Drive, DVD RW, and Memory so the only thing my 500 has to go towards is the motherboard/processor/video card.

This is what I'm thinking now.

Video Card : MSI R6950-2PM2D2GD5 Radeon HD 6950 2GB

Motherboard : MSI 890FXA-GD65 AM3 AMD 890FX

Processor : AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition Callisto 3.2GHz

Here are my thoughts. The video card can be bios modded to the 6970. I went with that motherboard because it has the capacity for Crossfire and according to MSI's latest press release it will be AM3+ compatible with a bios update which is something I really want in the machine.

The only sticking point is the processor. I'm going with the dual core with the thought of unlocking the other 2 cores for some quad core fun, but I'm also considering just paying the extra 50$ (putting me over budget by a bit) and going to the true quad core. Any suggestions would be helpful, and how do you think this machine would do on benchmarks/game settings?

The powersupply is a Coolmaster 700 watt and I will be using 4 gigs of DDR3 ram for now, with the expectation of one day going to 8 gigs.

Well, I think it would be better to go with the Phenom II 955. I've heard that the new 555 unlocking rate is pretty low. Though I bought my 555 month a go and I'm running fine with 4 cores.

Is your memory DDR3 :) ? And PSU enough to handle 6950?

Newegg doesn't ship the 955 anymore. Yes, my memory is DDR3 and the PSU is a coolmaster eXtreme power plus RS 700.
