My 940 is overclocked to 3.5 ghz all i changed was the mutiplier. It's stable and runs good. I've been working on computers for 8 years but just now getting into overclocking just wanting feedback. The temp just running media player is 29-31 and prime 95 all cores maxed was bouncing back and forth from 47 to 48. I am using a biostar TA790gx. Core voltage is 1.36. I'm fine with how it's running but I was wondering about other tweaks as far as ht link and NB clock which i think my NB clock is 2000 things like that. I cant do much with my mem. it's g-skill ddr2-1000 but have it running at 1066 and it's pretty limited at that i belive. mem voltage is 2.1. I appreciate any thoughts about temps and new tweaks.

Thanks
Marcus

sorry if i put this in the wrong form my main thing was the temps. but the other information would be nice as well.

:welcome: to the forums. And yes, this is the correct section. Your temperatures look ok but if you start increasing the cpu voltage it might start getting a little toasty. What CPU cooler are you using?

As for the overclock settings I'm not too sure about that, I'm only getting into the overclocking of the Phenom II's. Last CPU I oc'd was my Opty 180 :chair:

I think you could OC higher with the V I can do 3.5G at 1.3V on my unlocked 550 BEs.

If you talk about temps you should tell your ambient temperature as well, but the 45nm AMD cpus are rather cool until you start pushing high V.

I am using a xigmatec hdt-s1283, my ambient temp. never went over 39. it's set up in a antec 900 II tower. I am using oem thermal grease havint had a chance to get anything better yet. But i'm not too sure how much it will help when my processor will run one to two degree's below system temp.

Oc that cpu first and see if any gain is to be had with lower temps, then maybe you can get a new thermal grease.

Do not take it as an AD, I just don't know any other page off the top of my head which shows the gain with better TIM. Link Although their TIM is one of the best out there, check some reviews or opinions on the forum.

Think of it that way some people buy new coolers in the 50$ range, or new fans every few year for a few degrees so a 10$ TIM for the next year or so depending on how often you change the cpu isn't a bad idea.

The cpu is overclocked from 3.0 to 3.5 the pII 940 stock is 3.0. The temps I gave were with it at 3.5. If thermal grease will help I think it will only help the load temps i'm not sure. Thanks for the link though I will definitaly look into it I dont change cpu's very often most of the time I do a whole a new build. I'm wanting to build a I-7 intel system but dont have the money right now. I'm fine with the way this one runs it has a very good response i'm just allways wanting to build another computer.
