I've been looking into getting a laptop for some time and kinda figured with Black Friday coming up I'd see what kind of deals it brought. So I'd like to get some thoughts on the two that BB has on sale..

I'm not looking for a hardcore gaming PC or anything, mainly looking for a rig to do the normal stuff - surfing the net, web editing, photo, music and some small movie stuff maybe. I'm basically looking for your thoughts on the better buy of these.. (or if it's even worth it..)

HP AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology Laptop w/ 17" Brightview Widescreen

-OR-

Gateway AMD Turion 64 X2 15.4" Laptop

I've been out of the game for a pretty long time, so don't know much of anything any more.. I'm not looking to do any OCing, just run it.

I wouldn't rule out this desktop either, if it's the better buy.. (I know it's not a lappy...)

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6300 Processor w/ 17" LCD Monitor and Canon Color Printer

Thanks!

first off, u sure u want a 17" laptop? my dad got a 17 hp 64 like that one, and it just sits on a table all day, not really mobile if u know what i mean. it soo big and heavy, its hard to move it around, and the battery life isn't great because you've got a power hungry cpu and a huge 17" monitor to suck the life out of it, lol. i'd consider the gateway though, the 2gb ram and 120gb hd make it an insane deal. i think compusa had some good deals too, if you have one in the area, look at the compaq/hp laptops they have on BF

True that! 17" would be kinda big to lug around! I'm a bit stuck on BB unfortunately as I'll just be tossing this on my card.. :(

all comes down to the situation, and you personally.
i'm a big guy, and i've gotta lug around massive math, physics, and japanese (omoiyo!) books all day at my university, so the weight of a laptop doesn't make a big difference for me, where as some of my friends would tip over with a 17" laptop

I thought even my 15.4" laptop was a bit large to be carrying around, and before I got a backpack with a laptop pocket, it almost never left my dorm/apt. With my new laptop I made sure to get a 14" because I wanted mobility over screen size (and with a nice resolution, there is plenty of real estate.

I'm not a fan of Gateway, but if getting a 17" laptop (oxymoron) is the only other option, I would go with that.
