Im going to get a ti4200 with 128Mb RAM and VIVO

I want people to give me an idea of how good their ti4200 is

1) what does it overclock to, always important

2) how noisy is it, might go WC to keep things quiet so its worth a thought

3) how much was it

Obviously im in the UK so the price wont be the same but ill get some idea of which is the most expensive.

Thanx :D:D:D

Well my card is a 64mb but I have to say the MSI line up is a good one, price is decent and the bundle is superb. I here a lot of good things about the MSI cards...oh...stock cooling is excellent, O/C's well and updating bios is easy as MSI includes software to do so.
There are some cards to stay away from...gainward I think is one of them.
C'mon people help him out..i am drawing a blank here.

Everyone says stay away from gainward, and I'm not quite sure why. With my experience with a ti4200 from gainward (4x apg, 128mb ram, tv out) I never once had a problem with it. I could run at 290/600 using expertool, the overclocking software included with gainward cards. Of course, I did put a crystal orb on it. It cost me about 150 brand new, about 6 months ago. Recently, I sold my card for 120 (yes yes, I know i got a killer deal) and upgraded to an MSI ti4200 (128 ram, 8x apg, DVI connecter). It is due sometime next week, I will let you know which one I like better.

I bought my Gainward Ti 4200 128MB 7 months ago and has'nt had any problems i run it @ 328 / 594 everyday.
your in the minority, then. do a search for the P.S.O.D on any forums and you'll see just how bad they really are.

It's just funny. I've never heard of the pink screen of death from anyone. I know 4 other people that have gainward cards. They overclock em just like I do. No problems at all.

Mine is now officially DEAD after 7 months. It boots up showing me gibberish and then windows can only run it as a "VGA adapter". I ran my buddies gf 4600 in the same agp slot and the comp worked fine.

Another dead Gainward. Last week I e mailed tech support but no answer yet.

I paid 179 for my Asylum, can't seem to overclock it as much as other people can, but it's up there...

It's very quiet though. I'm happy with it but a bit perplexed as to why I cannot clock it as high as other people clock theirs, but then I play Unreal 2 at high res and realize I don't need to :)

Up there where? Numbers?

My dead 4200: Gainward RMA update: I called Gainward in CA and was connected to tech support. The guy asked the name of my card and said " that model is defective with bad capacitors" and he gave me an RMA. He said they would simply send a NEW card ( not repaired) within about 5 days of them getting the bad one back. He also said they dont make that model anymore. The warantee is 3 years. ( how the hell do u spell "waraunty"?

Just because the P.S.O.D. occurs a lot doesn't mean it happens with the majority of cases.

Even if its not the majority, "occurs alot" doesnt exactly give anyone a warm fuzzy feeling does it?

Not all the time, just alot! Not sure thats the best logic. :D

"A lot", "majoroity", "much more than it should".......

at the end of the day, it's happening far to much. Infact it shouldn't happen at all. Whatever way you look at it, i think its fair to say that gainward should be avoided for now.........

ABSOLUTELY...

When one specific item or brand has repeated problems, why would you risk it?

ALL the Firestone tires didnt blow up, just A LOT of them! LOL :D

Why gainward geforce 4 vga cards are so bad??
Becasue they put all the cheap & defective parts into their geforce 4 video cards. Gainward is only good at making Geforce 3 series cards..else than that, its just piece of junk
I owned my Visiontek Geforce 4 ti4200 for over a year now, never had problems, and their tech support are excellent All i can say is WOW!
i overclocked my video card to 300/600, i won't go any further, afriad will ruin my card without extra cooling

Did any of you read what I wrote back 4 posts?

Gainward doesnt make the defective GF 4200 model anymore, admits that it has bad capacitors and is replacing them with a new model.

Yeah, we read it. And its great to hear they are treating you right and hopefully everyone else.

But, theres no track record for the replacements just yet, and the problems of the recent past (and present) are fresh in everyone's minds. So, Gainward is going to have to earn back the trust they lost.

Right now, a company like MSI who has a good reputation and makes quality cards is still the better (and safer) bet.

Happy to hear that your RMA went so smooth.
