Tigerdirect slams neweggs prices on kents

The only difference I see is that the Tigerdirect chip is OEM, whereas the Newegg one is Retail. But that can't make up for a difference of $500.

If I was in the market and looking to buy one, I think I'd pick one up from Tiger. You should post that in the Cyberdeals section!

Their Retail is even lower than Newegg by far. It's $1299: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2573618&CatId=0

ZipZoomFly has them for $1199 retail, but they are out of stock. Seems like Newegg's price is just a weeee bit too high, IMO.

Newegg always high prices on things like these when they first come out.

Although generally when this happens Newegg slashes prices bwecause they realize how they're being undercut by other retailers.

Send a complaint e-mail to them about the price, the more they get the more likely they are to slash the price, I've already sent a few :)

could be true, but sometimes retailers just dont care.

At first release I've always found neweggs prices to be a bit more than everywhere else.

Newegg usually does a pretty good job of tending to their customers needs.

I think they've simply found charging a premium on new hardware maximizes their profits. A lot of people prefer to shop at newegg and won't even bother looking elsewhere.

You need to be VERY VERY careful buying a CPU from Tigerdirect, even if you receive a DEAD cpu, if you didn't ALSO buy a heatsink and fan, you will not be allowed to RMA or return it.

Don't believe me? Read this:

VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING OUR RETURN POLICY ON CPU'S: Please note that all processors may be returned only for defective exchange. You must purchase a compatible heatsink and fan on the same order as the processor in order to preserve your warranty or exchange privilege. We are not able to accept returns for refunds on processors under any circumstances. All processors will be inspected and tested upon return and any damage caused by poor packaging, overclocking, or other tampering with the processor will be cause for the return to be refused, and exchange denied.

Newegg does not pull crap like this

I would't call it crap, they are trying to reduce the amount of senseless RmA's they are getting from people who improperly install this stuff and send it back. YES obviously people may sometimes have a heatsink already and the policy should extend to people who can provide proof of that, but the general idea isnt so bad. - They should at least allow you to buy the heatsink at a different source.

This is another case of the few bad ones ruining things for everyone, and its a very sensible policy.

I honestly think the newegg price is ridiculous. I love newegg and shop there almost every week. But the $1600 price tag is way too much. I got lucky and paid $1,050 to TankGuys for my OEM 6700-XE a month ago.

 that is ridiculous! After seeing that I'd recommend staying away from TigerDirect. That is a horrible policy. You shouldn't HAVE to buy something else from these people to be assured that the item you order will work!

After seeing that, I'd say watch ZipZoomFly to see when their Retail chip comes back in stock, since it's only $1299 vs neweggs $1599.

WOW!! ..........I never knew. Thank you SSS for pointing that out.

actually you mis-understand
it is labelled OEM
which means you must purchase the OEM intel heatsink and fan
along with the processor .
on the same purchase order
basically tigerdirect charges very little for the heatsink/fan combo
it just insures to you that your warranty remains intact
just buying an OEM processor means there is no warranty applied
even intel admits that

But most places, like Newegg I believe, give you a 30 day return window. And you DON'T have to buy a heatsink with it to get that return availability. Of course if you damage the thing they won't refund, but if it dies on it's own or comes DOA...they will refund or at least replace it.

EDIT: BTW, OEM doesn't mean that you have to buy a HSF, just means that it does not come with a warranty from the manufacturer. And usually with CPU's, means it doesn't come with a HSF.

OEM cpus come with a one year warranty regardless of what cpu fan/heatsink combo you install on it. If you buy a retail box cpu and install an aftermarket heatsink your warranty is decreased from a 3 year to a 1 year.

thats a pretty neat little trick by tigerdirect. They've always been on my shady company list, and there they'll stay.

I have ordered a load of core2 OEM chips from Tiger Direct, 6700, 6800 and the quad, havent had a dead one yet, and I would deal with Intel direct anyway, despite the OEM labeling.

This is not a knock against NewEgg, I probably have my own packer at their warehouses!!

Other members have tried dealing with Intel direct after buying an OEM from TigerDirect and got the big DENIED!!

It would be wise to buy a retail CPU or get your OEM's from a company that has good customer service.

So you're saying that with the extra FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS you save, you could not buy a heatsink and fan?
