System worked well for many years but now the 5.1 cuts out intermittently. There is a button on the front that allows 'stereo' and stereox2' and cycling to those modes allows it to play. There is also a switch on the back that allows 'stereo 1-3'. IT plays when this switch is set to the 'stereo 1-3 setting. I opened it up but did not see any blown caps. Interestingly, I think there is a failing connection somewhere because flexing the pcb allows intermittent sound.

Is there a way to troubleshoot this?

Will it work going 6-ch direct?

Might flip the PCB over and look for any burned or loose solder connections.

Otherwise you might need to scrounge ebay for another control pod.

I can’t get the knob off without breaking it. When switched to 6 direct, the sound is intermittent - flexing the cord or the pcb allows intermittent sound. I think a trace might be cracked somewhere- was hoping someone might know what to do next. I guess I’ll leave it in stereo.

There's so much going on in those units that I think you're better off searching ebay for a new control pod. Might take a little time to find a decent priced replacement.

This could also be a decent option if you don't mind using your PC as a volume control and tweaking things a tad.

This might be the perfect solution.

Yes it looks good. Gave me an idea. Maybe I can find the pinout diagram of the DB25 on the amp and just take 3 minplugs and a DB25 plug and make a direct connect.
