My setup: Abit BF6, P3 700E @ 910, TNT2 ultra, SB live! x-gamer, 2 Maxtor HDs on Udma33, ISA 56k modem, 32x cdrom dr. + Win ME

My problem: First, I installed new radeon board(64Mb ddr), installed drivers, did some testing, then I put my TNT2 ultra back. Computer booted up ok, found & reinstalled drivers for TNT2 card automatically and rebooted fine. When I went into display properties, all of a sudden everything just hung and I restarted the system. After that it never made any sounds or signs of life, nothing shows up on the monitor. When I turn it on hard drives are initializing by making some noise, cd-rom indicator lights up, and that's it.
Could it be that the mobo is fried, if so which mobo I should start looking for, I'm planning on keeping my slot1 P3 700E.

If somebody knows anything about this problem please respond, I would appreciate it greatly.

Thanks

I had a problem like that on my BF6 once with a TNT2 32MB. It turned out that the driver that Windows (2000 in this case) loaded was not good. I loaded the driver from the CD that came with the video card, and all is well. Same symptoms though- it worked until the display properties window was opened, then crapped.

I don't understand why you don't have a bios screen though. The bios usually uses the default modes of the video card. I would make sure that it is seated well, by removing it and reinstalling.

Thanks for reply, it gives me some more hope!

However, I also happen to have a Voodoo3 2k pci video and I tried that one too, which means it shouldn't be anything like if it's not inserted properly or whatever. But the main thing is -- there are no sounds man! not a freaking sound, it just totally silent (except for HD, Fan and PS noise). Can't see bios or POST screens nothing.

I remember when I had hardware 'connectivity' problems, it would make noise all over the place(beeping). By the way I also tried another cpu - P3 450, same crap happened.
Please let me know from which point to start diagnostics or something.

Soon I'm going home and I'm gonna try reinserting video agian. Sometimes it works from the second attempt, I hope it will.

Anyway thanks for reading very much and I'm dying to hear any suggestions or clues.
:)

Same thing happened to me....but don't worry everything you have it just fine!

What i had to do, was hit the delete key at the right time and all was fine! Just that i have a Radeon.

This is what you do....
1) take out cpu
2) By the bottom of the mobo, there is a jumper for the Clear cmos. Put that up.
3) On your power supply, swtich it to 0 instead of 1
4) Move the jumper back down
5) On your power supply, switch it to 1 instead of 0
6) wait like 3 seconds, before your hard drive starts up, hit delete, and tap it not to fast.

If your lucky you will get it on the first try. If not keep turning it on and hiting delete @ the right times and your good to GO!!!

Carmine can you explain one more thing here. I want to print this out incase I ever need it but I don't understand two things in your instructions.

What do you mean by switching the power supply to 0 and then back to 1? Is this with the DIP switches?

When do you put the CPU back in?

Thanks in advance.

SORRY!!!!
You take out the cpu, and then you put it back in before you goto step 2.

On the power supply, there should be a switch (black) and there is a 0/1 so that you can i guess disable the power to the motherboard. This is very important!!! If you don't do those 2 steps your computer will start up without you ever touching the power button...and possibly messing up your computer. Make sure you pay attention!
