There was some discussion in another thread regarding using UT in
software rendering mode to compare the Tualatin processors.
We will need to use the same demo and procedures for valid
results. Any suggestions for changes or alternatives to
the below are welcome.
I found a demo file to use for UT timedemos. (See attached file)
Below are some results for the P3-S at 1471mhz. 154fsb Gigabyte XET-c board.
Gainward Gf3 Ti450 64mb Golden Sample. Not overclocked.
(Overclocking this card seems to make no difference in UT anyway...)
All tests with High details, 32 bit color, decals/lighting on and
0 selected for Min desired FPS in the preferences window.
After selecting the software rendering, I also disabled the sound.
UseSound : FALSE (under Advanced Options/Rendering/D3D Support,
which can be accessed by typing in "preferences" at the console)
You need to restart UT for that to take effect.
Instructions for running the timedemo are in the zip file.
** Hit tab and enter the "demoplay wicked405" command at that
prompt, and you wont have to worry about getting the console
window out of the way.
Here are some numbers:
---- Min FPS --Max FPS --Ave FPS
640x480 - 38.17 -51.20 - 44.56
800x600 - 28.57 - 37.38 - 32.80
1024x768 - 19.62 - 24.93 - 22.17
1280x1024 -13.09 - 16.11 - 14.56
1600x1200 - 9.39 - 11.43 - 10.41
Here are some for OpenGL and D3D rendering for compare:
OpenGL
1024x768 - 49.75 - 109.94 - 77.21
D3D
1024x768 - 46.87 - 110.49 - 79.51
I also ran all the above tests with the video card overclocked to
215/544 from the default 200/450 with almost no difference in results
at all, which is what we want I believe.
The ave fps went up 2.8fps for OpenGL, and 0.04fps for D3D scores above.
If there is any interest, I could set my 1.1a to a 134fsb for 1474
and run the same tests to compare to the P3-S at 1471.
