hi

i was just reading about some guys who achieved it to run a Tualatin CPU on BX/i815 platforms.

Now i was wondering if its running on socket Boards would it be possible to run it on the "normal" Slot1.

Currently i am using Abit BF6 with Slotket3 from Abit. CPU is a Celeron [email protected]

Would be nice if you guys could tell me if its possible to run Tualatin and how to do it.

Thanks

Andi

I dont seem to be able to get it working on my BF6 yet...
But i got a generic slotket (monday or tuesday i'll get a new one)
but in the link above a BF6 did work with a Tualatin.

if you want the sure thing, go Powerleap
If you want a chalange, funnyperson 1 gave you the link :D

First of all thanx for your support guys.

As i read for the first about the trick to run the Tualatin w/o Powerleap i was so glad to hear that cause the price of the Powerleap Adapter was the reason why i didn't want to upgrade.

Without paying these "extra money" it sounds much more attractive to me and so i want avoid of buying it. Cause if i would have to buy it i could also buy a new ABIT ST6 which seems to run perfectly with Tualatins.

The problem what i actually i have is: One person does it this way another one does it different. One guy i read has exactly the same config as me and he says it runs perfectly for him nice overclocking etc.. Other guys who read what he did are shouting out warnings that he should not run it like that.

Greets Andi

Additional things: I just in that 9k views Thread that you have only to isolate the mentionened three pins. this works as long as you are using a Brand Slotket Adapter like ABit, Asus or MSI.

So the next question is: What Tualatin to buy ? i am thinking about 1.0 or 1.1. What do you think ? And also which Cooler should i use ? Should i buy the boxed version with cooler or can i stay with my Golden ORB which i am currently using with my Celeron [email protected]

NOOO!
heres what you do, take that orb, place it on cement or a large piece of metal. then go get a 20lbs sledge and make a golden pancake :p

the orb is useless, go buy somthing better. i reccomend The socket 370 Swiftech with the copper base.

bf6 sloket!!! cel 1.2a

Hi I got mine working fine but I found out that I had to wire the
ak4 toak26 to get it working o.k. it was freezing up sometimes.
At first I just isolated the 3 pins I was so happy I got it to boot
and that I did not fry it. So it was not till today that I hooked ak4 ak26 up. I did set the voltage on the card and it did come out right do not put it on auto!!! but the freezing up is gone and its
running at [email protected] and that just the stock intel heatsink

hope that helps I think that the 1.2 is a good choice for the bx
board because you have to take the agp speed into account mines at 94.5 now and some vidio card just won't go that fast
my gforce mx and gts are o.k. at this speed

I got the 1.1
I figure 150 FSB is the best i will be able to do....
11x150 = 1650
12x150 = 1800
And I dont think 1800 is avery realistic Speed.

Also i dont want to get stuck under 133 FSB
and as most people can get about 1500 out the the CPU's
11x133 = 1463
12x133 = 1569

so i figure the 1.1 will give me thye most room to play with.

Or am i just playing it too safe :) (still waiting on a ASUS Slotket, Genric one i got doesnt work for the mod)

Jay just keep the agp issue I mind at 150 it would be at 113.5 mhz and that could be to much. The bx 2/3 agp setting is one of
the limits for overclocking

@ G Hunter

Thats good news. :)

What exactly is the disadvantage when you only isolate the 3 pins ?
You said it wasnt stable ?

Can i change the voltage like usual on the adapter resp. the SoftMenu III Bios ?

@Jay

I also would like to choose the 1.1A for my purposes cause its easier to achieve high FSBs which is more usefull than high CPU Frequency.

Would you recommend to buy boxed versions or just the cpu ?

Thx

I would get random lock-ups like when I was online it would just
freeze sometimes and I had to reset it not good at all. After I put the ak4 to ak26 it worked perfect. And yes it still adjusts the same in bios
I got the boxed so I did not have to search around for a heatsink as
this cpu is higher than the old ones because of the new heat spreader on it. And you can always add bigger fan to it. and it is quite a good size heat sink.
later!!!!!

@ 150 FSB you AGP speed is 100 MHz
150 * 2/3 =100
thats why i say 150 is probly the most you are going to get....

on a BF6 it is very easy to test if your AGP card can do 100MHz
Just set the AGP divider to 1/1 in the BIOS and run your CPU @ 100FSB....
I havent had any Video cards that could not run at that speed....
Most of the NEWER ones (4x) can handle running @ 100Mhz (x2) without any problems. AGP 3.75x OH yeah baby

Boxed CPU's (rumor/voodoo magic) generaly OC better.
I have had better luck with BOXED CPU's (see sig) and thing I am going to stick with them from now on (unless i get a crazy good deal on an OEM CPU)

Like G Hunter said, ak4 to ak26 can help stability...
But I am only going on what I have read, still waiting on my (NOW) ASUS slotket (generic ones doesnt work, trust me i know :( ). They ASURED me it will be in on the Thrusday the 14 (but then again they told me it would be in today)....

I Think you should however connect some VID pins.
If you dont (only disconnect the 3) you run the risk of frying your CPU apon 1st booting it. Their have been reports of the CPU booting at over 2V when the Voltage has not be manualy selected via VID pinning.....

When I get my ASUS slotket, and if i get the mod working, I will share how i got it working on my BF6..
And if i can on my ASUS P2B... and a Gigabyte GA-6BXC that was just given to me.

I really hate waiting for this slotket... I have had this 1.1 for 3 days now.......Its driving me crazy

Thats why I said do not set voltage to auto on slot converter. If you set it to auto you could get some high voltages but when I set it on the slot converter it read same in the bios. I tryed some different settings I.E. 1.6v 1.65v and they read fine to so make sure you set them right the first time!
P.S. I hate waiting to lol!!!!! but at least you can find one! I have an asus converter but have not used it on this mod. but it should work the same

After all that nice and helpfull posts of you guys i decided to order a Celeron T 1.1A as boxed version. Here in germany it costs 101 €uros.
I hope thats not too much for that CPU and i hope it will run reliable in my system. (have my Celeron II [email protected] running for about 1year and 9 month now )

I need your help !!!!!!

Hi

Finally i got the 1.1A Tualatin boxed Version.
I insulated the 3 pins as required but i got some major problems to do this cause it seems like the IDE Wires i use to pull over the pins are not doing their job well. After i put the cpu in the socket and then out the cables are not looking like they were before. So i guesss the insulation does not work so good.

Also when i tried to start the screen stays blank. What else can i do get it running ?
I am not sure what i should do now.

greets
Andi

my Problem is how i can insulate the three pins with a 100 % gurantee that they are insulated.

Nail Polish ?

IDE Wires, which i already used but didn't post ?

What else can be wrong ?

Abit BF 6 newest Bios version

Abit Slotket !!! with jumpers at Voltage 1.5 V, Coppermine CPU, tried 66Mhz FSB, 100 Mhz and Auto.

Please help me.

Sorry, got you wrong.
Do not insulate them if you're unable to do it properly. Just break these pins out! That's the easiest way!

yes thats exactly my problem i guess: The insulation never works properly.

But i wanted to avoid breaking them out. ol'man said that too.

My latest try with nail polish also failed... again no sign off booting up. What can i do now ?

pins

Well I did end up removing the slot converter cover and ripped the contacts out but be careful
the plastic is very brittle this way I had an less
trouble fitting the insulated pins in.I also used a exacto blade to make the holes bigger. as for the
ak4 to ak26 wire I used fine wire from an old mouse tinned it with some solder and made a small
hook on the end{I tinned about 1/4 inch then cut it back and bent it until it fit around the pin without touching any thing else} looped it around the ak4 pin then
slid the plastic mouse wire covering over to insulate and hold this wire in place. then I just ran this wire
out to the edge of the chip between the other pins which helped to keep the hook in place. and around to the back
of the slot converter and soldered it to the ak26
on the back. Now when this was done the one corner
of the cpu did not sit flush in the slot converter but once the heat sink was on this did not make much difference at all. since the wire was so fine and it fit between the other pins this also helps to hold it in place
was it easy no, its not did I take a chance? yes i did. So just be careful this mod will work ckeck out the forums and see what will work for you there are many ways to do this mod I just felt that it was better to mod the slot converter then
cut the pins on the cpu since you still need to connect to the ak4 I did not want to break it off.
I think finding the right size wire to cover the pins was what made the difference and I used a safety pin to flare them so that I could get them
started over the cpu pins as they are blunt and I had trouble at first getting them on. hope this helps.
