hey there,

contrary to what ive read on this board i dont think the integrated sound that comes onboard the Epox 8RDA+ is really up to snuff but i figured that going into it when i bought it. i think if i put my sblive value back in(but WONT) i might like it better...............

i can get the audigy gamer retail for 45.00 (after rebate) but the santa cruz is about 60 from new egg. im running XP Pro with an athlon xp 2600, asus g4 ti-4200 128mb.

im gonna have to shell out some dough for maybe a set of klipsch's too as my altec 45.1's are dated. but i want to start with the sound card first. anyone care to commont on either of these?

i dont need all the bells and whistles creative comes with since its strictly for gaming but i like the options and at 45.00 you cant go wrong. comments? suggestions? hate mail?
thanks alot

SD

Audigy supposedly has better sound, but drivers and software are extremely bloated (or at least the Live package was-I dont expect this to be any different)

TBSC has slightly worse sound, I think it suffers more in games but holds its own in non-bass-reliant music (from what Ive heard from others), and its package is a lot trimmer, a lot better.

The sound quality is about the same, however the drivers are much better for the TBSC.

Really? I am about ready to dump my Audigy. I have been having a recurring issue with the Audigy. I keep losing my rear 2 speakers of my 4.1. Surround sound doesnt' work in the speaker setup options. If the Turtle beach card is as good with quality and better drivers then I might just buy it.

well to add some fuel to the fire here i went for the turtle beach and heres my opinion: brought it home, installed it.

booted up and i have to say im not happy. the damn game port wouldnt not work no matter what i did. it needed a resource and according to IT or windows rather, i didnt have one available. duh. i had already disabled the onboard audio. ok, no problem. i make sure all the onboard audio is nowhere on the system which it wasnt. i even went as far as removing my winmodem, disabling the onboard game port, and keep in mind at this point all i had in the epansion slots were just an agp video card, and the damn satan cruz.

same problem. thing is i didnt want to have to use the onboard game port because it takes up a slot which is stupid for me especially when the cruz has one. after trying this over and over again for a few hours i got ******ed off and returned it to compusa for a rebate. this was found money for me since i sold a spare pc for it. but like a stupid *** i told them " it would not work in my system"

dumb *** i was for saying that, now i had to pay a restocking fee all because i didnt say it was defective. well, i learned my lesson. now i see why i hate/dont buy retail hardly ever. it might be user related but i built quite a few systems without this kind of headache. i know im impatient but i dont want to deal with stuff like this. good luck.

i have that same issue with my sound blaster live. i am also running windows xp pro. i dont think its the card. any card i tried, the game port wouldnt work. i installed drivers from creative, disabled the game port and reinstalled it; i even reinstalled it in my BIOS. dats y in my new computer, im going to install windows 98 (this is truly the best for gaming).

btw...im gonna get a turtle beach as u see in my sig.

LOL I've got similar problems. Thought it was due to the forced localized version of the crap drivers Creative supplies here in Europe. Guess not, lucky me heheh.

Tip: it works reasonably well if you set "Quadraphonic" speakers. I've only lost my rear speakers once after I did that (months ago).

hey, i have the M-Audio revolution, and it is a 'sound' little card (pun intended :p )
Perfect driver installation, no problem with setting up etc and no problems so far. A vote from me.

I agree, and I must say that the total software package is comprehensive, yet not intrusive. Major props to M-Audio :)

So how would you guys compare the M-Audio Revo to the Audigy I/II card? Is the sound quality a lot better, and would it really be worth the upgrade from an Audigy I/II?

It definitely beats an Audigy I, no question about it.

Id also recommend it over the Audigy 2. I haven't heard the A2, but the sound of the Revo is probably slightly better, or right at the level, of the A2, from what Ive heard. But, IMHO, whats even better is the software/driver package; with Creative one typically gets 10 unnecessary media players bundled in the 50 MB drivers themselves

turtle beach - i got one myself after being a religous SB person - FAR better to me! no problems @ all with anything!

I'm gonna say TBSC as well. I had tha same problem with the game port thing at first too. Try it in a different slot. Works wonders. I've owned an Audigy before, and I cant stand all the CRAP it installs with the drivers. The TBSC is a nice clean install without issues. Get the latest drivers too. They help some.

i woudlk go with an aufigy 2 you can get one at newegg for 78 no shipping charges, and about the sb live the klatest drivers for that thing suck i had one before my audgiy 2 and i lost rear speakers and few sounds in games woudl play ut2003 would only play background music and bf1942 would onyl do gunshots nothign else

Ive done JKII, Tribes 2, UT2k3 with it so far w/ no problems (well, minus my crap Walmart headphones  ). Haven't gotten around to MW4 and MOHAA, and some other assorted games.
