is there any way to improve the picture quality or force a higher resolution out of the tv out. i have a r9000 pro and i cant read small text on my tv and games look significantly better on a moniter. i also plan on using my computer as a dvd player in the future.

i'd also like to know, cause my tv is high def, but it still looks pretty bad... using the s-video cord from my tv on my videocard (in my sig)

text is always hard to read on tv's, there are very much inferior compared to a normal computer monitor. for dvd's and some games, they're fine to output to, but forget trying to get text to look halfway decent, its near impossible.

Agreed. You would have to force a lowe resolution to get the text to look bigger, but it still would not be that clear. They do make tv's that are specifically designed to be used for video output from a computer. The text on those look really nice. We have a few of those tv's at my school, they also function as normal tv's I think, so maybe get yourself one of those if they are not too expensive.
