Tweaking Windows XP

Hi, was wondering how can i tweak my Windows XP so I could make my computer more faster and not eat much memory. If you could help me it would be much appreciated (give help in detail).

Unfortunately, the biggest speed boosts are achieved by using nlite to create a custom XP CD before you install in the first place. However, I recommend the following:

XPLite is a good program, though it isn't free. it lets you remove bits of windows that you don't use.

You can also go into msconfig and disable pgrograms and services booting with windows that you dont need or use.

I'll just copy / paste my reply to you from that thread... My first suggestion would be to remove McAfee from your system, and install a free AV scanner like Antivir or Avast...

Secondly uncheck both RCMan and SbDrvDet in the System Configuration Utility, click OK and reboot. RCMan is the Remote Control Manager, and SbDrvDet is the Sound Blaster Driver Detector... both of which are installed when you perform a "Full" install of the Audigy software.

If you're not using a remote, it's not necessary to have it checked in the Configuration Utility... in fact you can choose to not install it during the software installation phase. Loading the Driver Detector on my system causes major havoc, especially when the Remote Control Manager is also being loaded.
