(first post here... be kind. =P)

Motherboard: Tyan S1854 Trinity 400
CPU: Pentium III 500 Mhz

I've been poking around in the BIOS settings for the board and it looks like there's a whole set of things I could do to get the CPU to run faster. I can change the bus speed (nothing unusual) and it also has an option for autodetecting the PCI and RAM clocks. There's also a set of jumpers on the board that serve as a clock multiplier. But no matter what I change, I'm stuck with the same CPU speed. There's no option for changing core voltage, which could be part of my problem.

Can anyone help me with this? I understand quite clearly that I'm going to need some serious cooling if I'm going to be successful in this.

Go in the bios and make sure that there isnt anything that auto detects the chip speed. If there is disable it. The only thing that you can change to overclock your CPU is the FSB. Your multiplier is locked, no matter what you set it at it will always be 5.

If you do find and disable anything that auto detects your chip speed, the set your FSB up and you should see a speed change when you boot up. I would recommend looking in the CPU database and get an idea target speed from that 500.
