Ok guys, I have heard some good stuff about the 1004 uber BIOS. Currently I have the 1004 Asus bios on my a7n8x dlx r 1.04. I have flashed my bios before, but Im kind of nervous about flashing the 1004 uber bios. I have it on a floppy ready to go, but I've heard a few people having problems with it, and I really don't have any experience with replacing BIOS chips if it messes it up. Has anyone here had problems with this BIOS flash.
Also, would Asus RMA a board if it had a bad bios flash.

You can buy a new BIOS chip (not TOO expensive) and they arn't too hard to replace if the flash does go wrong, no need to RMA (and they probably won't accept it unless it was brand new and you said it came like that - but that is pretty unethical...).

But anyhow Welcome To The Forums!:D

I have an A7N8X rev. 1.04 and have been running the uber bios since it came out. It fixed my SATA problems and I can run a Barton 2500+ at 11x200 with no hassles.

I have had no problems with the flashing when done from Dos mode. I had one problem when I tried to use the Asus Windows update flash program, I would keep away from that:).

The Über 1007 is better and "safer" when flashing...had to hot flash my BIOS chip a few times when I used the Über 1004 and some high OCing...so far no problems at all when doing some high OCs...also the perfomance is better with the 1007...and it conatains the latest SATA bios already (v4.2.27).

You can get all of the Über BIOS's from Demoulous's Über bios project...make sure you pay attention to which version you download...they have all of the A7N8 series boards and they also have a Über BIOS for the Gigabyte K8NNXP-940.

I am going to add:

The Über BIOS has the VDD and VDIMM voltage options added...BUT the VDD voltage option does not work on the rev 1.04 and the VDIMM will not go up to 2.9v's when set to it. You will have to do a VDD and/or VDIMM voltage mod to achieve the right voltage. This is not just a BIOS option issue (Asus not adding them for the 1.04's), but a component or lack of issue.

I got the Bios Savior last week and plan on installing it soon. Once I do I'm going to try the 1007 Uber and see if it makes any difference to overclocking/temps/etc. I wonder what he does to the Bios.

What would you guys recomend I use to boot into DOS mode. I used to just use an old 98 boot disk to run the awdflash, but that was back when my hdd was fat32. What do you use to boot into dos and access ntfs partions in order to use awdflash.

You can use a dos boot disk from www.bootdisk.com and just copy the New BIOS and flash program onto the floppy (no need to access the NTFS partitions that way).

Hmmm...he hasnt posted back letting us know if everything worked out...hopefully your flash process worked for you...I could never get the uber BIOS to flash using DOS...had to use that dumb asus update prgoram and point it too BIOS file ...

I'm currently using the asus rev.1007 bios. I would like to flash to the 1004 uber (the 1007 uber is unfortunately, only for the dx boards, and the 1005 uber hasn't had rave reviews for o/c'g).

My question is ... what features (etc.) if any, will I lose, moving from a revision 1007 bios, "down" to a revision 1004 bios?
FYI ... the one feature I am drooling over (in the uber bios) is the ability to raise the ddr voltage to 2.9v.

Cheers.

If you have a rev. 104 MB...the VDIMM and VDD voltage wont work...I have already tried it...set it too 2.9...yet MBM5 and Asus probe still read it as 2.8...and if you have a rev 2.0, not sure since my MB at the time I tested it was a 1.04...and if you do have a 1.04 version...then I would just stick with the regular 1007 Asus BIOS until they bring out the non deluxed Über BIOS...

Hopefully he can still get online!

Doh! I guess I sort of forgot to report my results. The flash went fine, although I had to reset my overclock in the BIOS. I just made a DR-DOS boot disk and extracted the awdflash.exe and theUber 1007 zip to it, the autoexec file in it worked great.

:p
glad it worked... You should report back heh - you worrie us. The re-setting the OC part is supposed to happen, it sets everything to default, you would have to set everything back to the way you had it. Also, in case you did, for futre referance you shouldn't flash your BIOS while overclocked, you wanna remove any change for corruption.

Well, the scary part is the default settings overclock my proc enough it doesn't post, with uber or asus BIOS. I always have to change the FSB down from 133 to 100(or 110 if I'm overclocking) I would unlock this duron so I could have it 133 if it was mine, but I'm borrowing it from a friend until I can get my 2500+. 13X multipliers suck.
