I'm putting together a computer (building it)
I got all the parts put together but when i hit the power it double beeps real quick then beeps 8 times...then pauses then beeps 2x then pasuses then beeps once.
What does this mean?
The computer's mother is a Giga-byte GA-7ZX VIA KT-133 chipset. The hard drive is a 40GB 7200 RPM Maxtor and the CD is some cheap thing.
Think all of the cables are hooked up right?
Damn I'm lost! and no gigabyte doesn't have any support numbers. Does the computer beep or is it the hard drive...I don't know.
Anyone get anything similar ever?
What's going on

If it's an AMI BIOS: 2 beeps usually means a memory problem - try reseating the DIMMs. 8 beeps usually indicates a memory error on the video adapter - try reseating the video card or replace it. But 2-8-2, dunno.

If it's an Award BIOS, nobody knows but GigaByte.

Make sure the ram is inserted all the way, possibly remove and re-insert.

Otherwise go here:

http://support.iwill.net/beep.htm

These are bios beep indicators that Iwill uses on their Award bios. May be similar to what you board uses.

Good luck

Yo

now get this...on my other computer i have a TNT1 AGP. so i threw it in my "new" system the one that beeps like the road runner. it still gave me all the same beeps. 2 quick 8 pause 2 pause 1
so if giured oh well...no i put the TNT back in my old computer and when it goes to start up IT gives one long beep and then 2 quick. it has 2 dimms at 128mb pc100 each. they R seated properly. so....what the hell?

later ok now...get this...i was told to remove all of thwe devices except for the hard drive...i did so...STILL got the 2-8-2-1. i removed the AGP video card the Hercules that we thought was dead...now it works in my Gateway(old comp) back to the new comp I even removed the hard drive and it STILL beeps 2-8-2-1.
So is this a bad MOBO?? it beeps when nothing is hooked up to it...and just the hard drive and every other combination UGH!! what to do what to do....any suggestions?
