My HD dosent like high bus speeds, and sometimes it just dies for no reason. It is a western digital 40 gig.

It shut off recently, and when I booted back up, I got a message, something along the lines of no 80 conducer cable installed...

Anybody know what this means?

All ATA66 and higher HD's use an 80 wire cable. Chances are you have one installed, but the high FSB that your HD doesn't like has probably caused that error message. I'd back off until you can find a HD that can tolerate the high PCI bus. Check the forum, and see if anyone can recommend a specific make and model.
