Un-regioning DVD drives

I have a DVD drive in my computer (+RW) and it is regioned. I am just wondering if it is possible to somehow remove the regioning (maybe a firmware flash or a hardware mod) so it will play all regioned disks, and how to do it if it is possible.

If not, is it possible to obtain un-regioned DVD-rom drives?

Just search the web for a flash-upgrade for your drive. Be warned though. If the flash process goes wrong your drive is ruined. My first attempt of flashing my DVD-rom(sony something) killed it. I had the drive for 24-hours. 100$ out the window(1-2 years ago).
