Afternoon-

I'm looking for a motherboard, microATX or so, that I can underclock / undervolt a C2D (2160 or Celeron 1200) dual core chip. This is going to be a media server, and while (yes) I can run my old celeron / PIII system the goal is silence and power.

Any suggestions? A couple of cheap motherboards for 30$ with onboard video but not too many talk about lowering the voltage- and all the ASUS ones I looked at only had Voltage + options.

Suggestions very much welcome-

Jason

there are no board that cheap with what you need. you basicly need to look at a mobo with ocing options. that way you can either lower the multi or lower the fsb to the cpu. for just a media box the E1200 is perfect for the job. to lower the voltage on some boards though you will have to use crystalcpuid program to do so. since the VID is nothing more then a software setting that can be changed on the fly, kinda like use setfsb.

i would figure out the case i was going to use, then go look at the motherboards. as some ATX boards can be cheaper then MATX boards. the only MATX with ocing features i would go for are either the Asus or gigabyte G33/G35 boards. if you plan to build this rig within the next couple of months the G43/G45 based boards will be on the market.

Thanks much. It's a media server going to run Linux and sit downstairs in the cold ;-) So I'll add ATX back to the list.

If you were on a Windows OS, I was going to suggest a tool similar to RMClock where you can manually specify the voltage and multiplier on a CoreDuo / Core2Duo platform by way of software.

I assume something like this exists in the Linux world, but I don't know what it would be called.
