Ok, so this is probably a really basic question but I cant seem to think of how I am supposed to unhook my watercooling system if I ever want to upgrade it. Right now the way its gonna be setup is with just a pump/res, rad, and CPU WB. But later I want to try a NB and maybe GPU WB. But once I have it hooked together and running how am I supposed to add new parts without water getting everywhere once I unhook a hose? FYI, My rad is mounted on the top (externally) of my case with holes going into the case for the hose and power connecters. Simple answers are always the best and I'm sure this problem has one, I'm just too tired from studying to think of it.

If your reservior is easily opened, just scoop or siphon the water out of it. Then the radiator and waterblock will drain back into the reservior as soon as the fittings are above the waterlevel.

Use a smaler tube to siphon it into a bucket. If you've used waterwetter or antifreeze, don't swallow while starting the siphon, that stuff is NOT good for you internally.
If the water/additive is fairly new, siphoning into a clean bucket will allow reuse too.

And just for giggles, you might install a drain valve on the reservior while the system's being updated. No one ever thinks of that until the first update! (me either)

Have fun!

I'm going to add a T fitting with a short length of capped tubing and then if I need to empty the system I can just uncap this tupe over a bucket and let the water pump into the bucket. Thanks for the advice.

Excelent Idea!! mind if i use it?

No problem, Iron Hawk. Everything I post is public domain. Everyone profits if there are no secrets...;)

I personally was thinking of using a stopcock for a car radiator..the kind with a collar on it that you can fit a drain tube into before opening.

I just unhook my system at the lowest point and let it drain. If I do a cpu upgrade, I just take the w/b loose from the m/b and upgrade then reinstall the w/b without draining the system.

I have always put a tee with a valve at the lowest point in the system (pump inlet.) Not only does this make draining easy, you can crack the valve while filling to relieve the air pressure and prime the pump.
