I need to know how to uninstall Linux. I'm about to upgrade my computer and reinstall Windows and while I'm at it I want to get rid of Linux.

It's Mandrake 8.1 BTW. Anyway it was fun to play around with but I need those 30 GB back.

Just delete the partition its on. Usually during the Windows install you'll have an option to rearrange your partitions; that would be a good time for it.

Installing Windows should overwrite the MBR and therefore, remove the Linux bootloader.

Doesn't work. Last time I had to reinstall Windows it didn't give me an option to delete any partions. It didn't touch the MRB either because LILO was still my bootloader.

What version of Windows are we talking about here?

The method by which you delete the partitions doesn't matter. You could grab a DOS boot disk and fdisk them away, or even use your Mandrake CDs, which probably include some sort of partition management program.

As far as fixing your MBR goes, I believe it depends on the version of Windows you are using. If its one of the ones with the recovery console (I think Win2k and XP) the command 'fixmbr' should take care of it. Otherwise, you can get a Win98 bootdisk and do fdisk \mbr.

I use Windows ME (it's the sucm of OSes I know). Anyway thats what I was just thinking. I know I've got a DOS bootdisk around here somewhere. I'll just fdisk the drive.

You know now that I think about it, I've got a WinXP disk that came with my Compaq labtop. Think I'll just use that insted of the WinME disk that came with my HP.

Anyway thanks for the help. I'll go back to Linux one day.

Don't use Winme. You're insane if you use that voluntarily.

But if you do, you can use fdisk to delete the Windows partition. /sbin/lilo -U should remove Lilo from the mbr.
