My 1800 is factory-locked, but I know others have had great results with overclocking their 1800 thoroughbreds. So I was wondering if the pencil trick works, and what should be connected? Any advice would be beneficial.

I don't think the pencil trick works for T-Breds. Why don't you just bump up the FSB on your motherboard like I did? I'm only being held back by my memory right now. Oh yeah... what stepping of the XP1800 did you get?

The FSB will only go up so far. Sometimes doesn't boot, even. I might just try that (can't right now, mobo needs to be replaced. Defective. Still under warranty.), but I want to get at least 1.8, if not 2.0. BTW, got the JIUHB stepping.

Can you post what did it say on the black label on that chip (everything on the left 2 lines at least?)
If you have a week 39 or newer chip and it is locked, there is no known way of unlocking these ones yet, as AMD has changed the package and now the CPUs are locked so hard that every attempt has not yet succeeded

I'm almost at 2.0 GHz on stock voltage and crappy PC2100 DDR (mix of Mushkin, Hynix, and Micron).

Thing is, I can't change my multiplier with a locked chip. I can change the bus speed, but that's all. If I unlocked it, I could change it. You are sure the pencil trick does not work?

I can't see the pic, could you just type in what the black label said please? If its really locked then there's nothing you can do about it, except replacing the chip with an earlier than week 39 chip, that way you're getting an unlocked chip 100% guarantee

Like The Coolest said, there is still no way to unlock a tbred. And the pencil trick doesnt work. People have tried.

The last chip the pencil trick worked on was the t-birds. Pallys were locked, but you had to use somethingto fill the pits, and something more conductive than most pencils (there were, actually, a few pencils that would work, but normal ones didn't). Then came T-breds and bardons, both "factory unlocker," menaing that the L1 bridges ad never been cut. If it's one of the newly-locked chips, the L1s are already closed, so there playing with them won't help anything.

Looks like Packrat doesn't even know what he is saying.. HA HA

ThoroughbredXP 1800 chip is UNLOCKED. It's not FACTORY LOCKED. It's UNLOCKED. You didnt' even say what mobo you got either. No info on anything.. Via KT266a mobo should be able to adjust multipliers upto 12.5x with that chip. Via KT333 mobos should be able to adjust them upto 12.5x multiplier. Some KT400 should be able to adjust the multi at even wider range. Nforce2 boards should be able to adjust all most multipliers with that chip.

That is if the chip was released before AMD started hard/permanent locking the chips recently. Yup, The Coolest and Maxima88 are saying correct. Listen to them and answer their ques...

Yup, that is correct, chief.

My bro OCThis done it. Special pencil lead using mechanical pencil to UNLOCK the Pallie chip xp2100 he had.. You take some bad azz lead, it'll work. Normal pencil #2 , HB, etc junkies are toooooo weak.

Why is it funny that someone doesn't know something?

week 39 and later are most likely locked. Nope, nothing works to unlock them. I have one. It sucks.

The only reason I haven't been answering their questions was that, here in the U.S., it was NIGHT TIME. I WAS ASLEEP. My system specs are in my profile, but to reiterate, the mobo is a PCChips m848LU. I know that board is looked down on here, but it was the cheapest one I couldlay hands on that had specific features, like AGP 8x and DDR333. The BIOS says that the chip is locked; where one would be able to adjust the multiplier or the voltages it is grayed out and says "LOCKED". The numbers on the chip are as follows:

AXDA1800DLT3C 9438056250034
JIUHB0311VPMW (m)(c) 1999 AMD

I got the chip a couple of weeks ago at Newegg for my budget system, hence the cheap PCChips mobo. Sorry for taking so long replying, but this is the earliest I have gotten a chance to check my email.

Nice chip there. Look at my sig. ;) That is definately NOT locked. If for some reason you can't get the motherboard to allow multiplier changing, you can look into the "wire trick". You would then be able to assign particular multipliers if I'm not mistaken.
