I got mine from a local reseller. The only ones I could fine were 2600+ week 37, AQZFA.

If you are looking online you'll be running a bigger risk, since most being sold are now locked. There's been reports of 2600+ and up from newegg comming unlocked since they aren't being bought up as fast. Ebay would be one place you could "verify" that it will be unlocked, and there was mention of another store that guarentees unlocked bartons (but you pay up the nose) I don't remember the link off hand, but if you search the AMD forum you should find it.

I got a 3000+ Barton from ebuyer. It was a 333Mhz fsb chp tho. and it is unlocked because I have tried. But I think it was a week 37 or 30 something.

Got my AQXEA 0331 from Fry's OEM just this past wednesday, luckily someone just returned on the day before, great overclocker too.

Go Ebay. Ask the seller for the stepping code. Always check the seller's rating.

picked up a week 32 last saturday at a local pc show..

*looked at all the dealers that were there stock.. the last possible guy had 3 of em, whew..*

edit: it appears now that it might not be unlocked.. will have to test and find out..

picked mine up at a local pc shop- they had no idea what they had. I called about 4 shops and had them read the steppings to me over the phone. They were very helpfull, just had to tell them where to look on the chip through the retail packaging.

There's one for sale in Classified Section right now. $100 I think. You are over 100 posts, so you now have access.

peace.

You're best bet is to go to your local "mom & pop" computer stores and you can look through the stepiing codes yourself.

I got mine from one a few miles from where I work. Dropped by there on my lunch break and picked up a unlocked one. These small stores don't really move their stock that quickly so most of the time, they have the older/unlocked ones on their shelves.

I purchased 7 Unlocked Barton 2500's from 2 places. Mei microcenter--and a local computer show 2 weeks ago.. I was AMAZED at the fact that of the 14-15 or so vendors I talked to, NONE of them knew ANYTHING about the Bartons being unlocked. THank GOD for sites like this..
I'm selling one of these GEMS in the classifieds, the prices are NOT good from RETAIL but it seems to be the only way to truely make sure they are the unlocked ones.

you guys are lucky enough to have local retailers to get unlocked chips :(

bestbuy is the only place that sell chips in my town

but ebay , theres tons of chips floating around thats unlocked, heck i have a 2100+ tbred b dut3c on auction

yeah, another vote for going in "mom and pop" shops...or the ones that dont realy advertise their chips as much liek compusa or best buy

yeah i agree with dalilman52, he was with me when i got my unlocked barton 2500+ a week ago and i posted a thread about how the bestbuy in houston has lots of unlocked bartons.

All the small local shops around here charge crazy money for pc parts. Example: An AMD 1800+ was $98.00 at one and that pretty much covers them all. I'm so jealous of you people that have Frys and the like. Thank god for newegg!

My Barton is an old one so it came out when all were unlocked.:)
