hey guys I just got my asus A7N8X-E deluxe / with 2500+ AQZEA 0346. put the chip in and I can change the multiplier does this mean its unlocked?

Check to see if the mhz change when you change the multiplier in the bios. You may be able to change the multi in the bios but it doesn't actually affect the actual multiplier. If your mhz are changing when you change the multi, then the chip is unlocked.

If you can change the multi in the BIOS and the system boots up with MHz changed then yes. If the system doesn't boot up or you get the same MHz then no. Usually if it's locked if you change the multi in BIOS and try to boot up you'll get nothing but a black screen.

When you put a Thoroughbred or Barton in a motherboard that is based on the nForce 2 chipset you are able to select and change multipliers in the BIOS to increase the clock speed however the chips are not actually unlocked.

I just returned from a search mission around town and I turned up a Barton 2500+ with stepping # AQYFA 0341 RPAW. It is also green. I wonder what would be the chances of it being unlocked.
I also looked at a 2700+ AIUHB 0305 SPQW. what about it.
Still looking and hoping
PS to demo the length to which I will go, I found a guy selling a 2500+ based computer whose 2500+ is unlocked, and I am offering to trade him for my brand new, still in box, locked one.
He is not an overclocker so he may just go for it.

Read some of the other threads in this forum. You can unlock your week39+ by doing a mod to the L6 and tricking it into thinking it is a mobile CPU and then you can change the multiplier. Im not sure though, I'll have to read up more and follow these threads more carefully. You should too.

Good Luck!
:)

Yeah, I have been reading and studying till my eyes are crossed, But I still have not seen any definitive solution to the locked multiplier problem. Just a lot of reports from guys who are far more knowledgeable and braver than I am.
I hope that eventually, someone will be able to get it all into one clear language and examples that we relative novices can understand.
