Unlocking my Athlonxp1700

According to the codes you listed, you have the following:

JIUH'B' = Tbred B
D'U'T3C = 1.60 volt core
03 = 2003
11 = week 11

You do NOT have to unlock this chip in order to overclock it; however, your motherboard may or not support changing the CPU multiplier, or your motherboard may only give you access to the lower multipliers (5x to 12.5x). Try changing the multiplier slightly in your BIOS and see what happens.

(edit) What motherboard do you have?

No! You do not. I'm running much higher FSB than 150. When your system starts to run unstable at higher overclocks, slowly bump your Vcore up. Make sure you have good cooling too.

I'm running a Abit KR7A-133R with latest BIOS update.

FSB goes to 250 I think. PAL8045 HSF, with Thermalright AX-7 on the way for comparison. LOts of case fans and good Samsung memory. I want to hit at least 2 gigs.

Just to re-iterate what nearly everyone has said - you dont need to unlock the cpu (the L1's are already closed)
What is your memory rated at? With your mobo you can access the multis up to 12.5 but not beyond. If you have at least PC2700 memory then you should be able to hit 12.5 x 166 on your rig easily.

Being able to change your multiplier will depend on your mobo itself. Check your bios and see what multipliers are available and see if you can change it (lower it by .5x or 1x) then check WCPUID if it did actually change.

My memory is rated at pc-2100. cas 2.5 if I remember correctly.

dun need to unlock it.. change the setting in the BIOS is enough, well.. also depend on wat mobo u r using as well... if it's not for OCing then u can't really OC it anyway...

Hmm well you might be limited there as it is only rated to 133 FSB but may be able to get to 150 - 160 FSB out of it. The other limitation you have is the 1/4 divider I suspect your mobo has.

I have my present cpu running at 11.0 x 150FSB. It's pretty much maxed out at that setting. If I remember correctly it's an T-bird 1800 running at 1650MHZ. I know I should be happy with that but I want at least 2GIGS.

The L1's are not closed (,bridged,) on the top of the chip,are they closed internally?

No they are not closed internally. Your other option is to access the higher multis via blowing open the 3rd and 5th L3 bridges that means you can keep around 150FSB but use the multis 13 and above to overclock.

I looked,all the L3 bridges are already blow open.

If they were all open then you would have a multi of 18.5 you looking at the correct bridges? (BTW your L1 and L3 bridges will look the same as both sets are identically closed on an XP1700)

L1's and L3's are all untouched. L5 has the last 3 bridges opened.L12 has two bridges open, 2nd and 4th. L9 are all open.
All the other bridges are untouched.

Is everthing as it should be?
