I have a 3000+ Barton w/400Mhz FSB. If I increase my multiplyer my clock speed doesn't raise at all. My only option is overclocking the FSB speeds. I have a Asus A7N8X Deluxe Rev 2 mobo with some PC3200 Kingston Hyper-X RAM... Is it possible to unlock this CPU?

Welcome to the forums jankage.

No it's not possible.

2100+ B's and mobile Bartons are still multiplier unlocked.

If you can't get mobiles where you are and can only get desktops, you need one with a higher multiplier considering your RAM should go into 200s FSB and expected overclock is between 2.2 and 2.4 GHz.

MHz speed = FSB x multiplier

Most people get the 2500+ with the 11 multiplier (it overclocks similar to your 3000+).

Multipliers are in the right column:

Hi,
The highest rated Athlon XP is the '400 FSB' 3200+ Barton.

We overclock them 'unofficially' so we go over the highest offical FSB.

The particular mobo in q is rev 2, which is capable of going into (dual) 200s, unlike rev 1.

So basically it is possible to go past what is said by the motherboard specs, it's not defined that it's not possible, just not "Stock speeds possible"

Yes.

But not with every motherboard.
I've seen a Soltek nForce2 do dual 250 FSB, that would be '500 FSB'

Some have even hit more.

You need expensive, high quality RAM for that, quality PC3200 and above.
You need a motherboard capable of it with decent bridge cooling.

Abit, DFI and Soltek nForce2 mobos are excellent overclockers.

Of course, Athlon 64 is where you want to go for high FSB's, there are mobos and RAM sticks doing dual 300 there.
