updates out lawed

im at uni and i cant accses any of the automated update systems i cantget m$ updates or viruis scan updates
for m$ it bewlieves im not an administrator but for mcafee i dont think i can even get it to see the web
im told that m$ updates are baned cos they use to much bandwidth (i just download linux then) any one know how to getaround it??

That's a bit odd since updates are pretty critical things in the OS and viruses. Talk to your network admins. They may be able to offer a way around it. If Windows is telling you that you're not an administrator, then check your user profile and make sure that you ARE.

oh im an admi allright but only hear on this pc.
I found an update to virus scan down loaded it manuly and instaled it and now taht works.
there must be a similar fix for 2k
