Evening everyone. Well i recently came into some money and thought I should upgrade my video card while I have the extra money.

Mine does me well for now but I would like better. Getting tired of choppy frames and missing frames in some game ( Madden, Amercias Army ) etc. Figured I should upgrade now to a card based on dx9

Question is to what? I always liked nvida so I would prefer that but as of right now I am holding about a $100 budget.

Any suggestions?

100 bucks wont buy u any thing much better than a ti 4400 but u may want to lok into the geforce fx 6200s with turbo cache thoes can own over fx5700s and u might be able to find one for about that price if u do that u might need a system ram upgrade atleast 768mb

if that was a question probily not 1gig is great for turbo cache did u check on thoes cards u should be able to find them on froogle.com or pricewatch.com

sorry didnt look at ur rig spec when typing 768 was a sugested minimum if u get a 6200 with turbo cache because they use ur system ram instead of dedicated video ram

XFX GeForce 6200 TurboCache Video Card, 64MB DDR (Up to 256MB Shared), DVI/TV-Out, PCI-E, Model "PVT44PQA" -RETAIL

for 70$ dollars performs realy good for the money but only in pci express so probily doesnt help

CHAINTECH nVIDIA GeForce FX5700LE Video Card, 256MB DDR, 128-bit, DVI/TV-Out, AGP, Model "SA5700L" -RETAIL

99$ 128bit=good 64bit=bad 256mb=awsum good price

if u get this u should see if u cant find it for cheaper on pricewatch or froogle

yea this is the one i tried linking ( which I fixed ) and i found one for 79 ( here ) but they all seem to be priced around the 75 range but i should look for something with a 128bit instead of the 64bit.

What exactly is the pci-express too that I see with the 6600

dude the one on that site has 128 mem and the one on newegg.com has 256
i dont understand ur pci experess question
turbo cache isnt rubish especialy for 70 $
i think iknow wat ur asking pci express is anew socket that u dont have and the 6200 with turbo cache only suports it
and a 6600 is probily out of ur price range about 150$ for 128 mb but it does perform faster than that 5700le

if i wer u id go with the 5700le 256mb on newegg.com

Ill check it out. I just want something that will let me be able to play future games and current with all the bells and whistles....i know the ti 4400 wont let me since it already is limited with some games.

I wouldnt recommend upgrading until you can get the cash together for a decent, noticable and worthwhile upgrade. Thats my personal philiosophy. I currently use a GeForce Ti4200 64MB which works fine for World Of Warcraft etc.

I would try turning down detail settings so the 4400 is bearable, and maybe try to save up a bit more cash and perhaps go for a high end FX59xx card or an FX6600.

6600 would let u prepair for future games so u might get that over the 5700le but it costs a bit more i personaly would save up for a 6600 gt 256MB if u want to make it last along time (takeing back wat i said earlier)

good luck

Nothing for 100 dollars is going to let you do that. To answer you question, "should you wait". Well how long would it take you to save more money? If you could keep the 100 dollars and say within a few months get another 100 then, buy a 6600gt. If you can't then I would look at used cards like a 5900xt or 5900nu.

Just because you have $100 to spend does not mean you can do any job for $100. Your Ti4400 is at least as good as any new $100 card, and likely better by any reasonable standard.

I'd recommend a used ATI 9800pro in your situation (even though I detest ATI). The FX5900 isn't really a noticeable improvement unless you have big cpu power and don't turn the eye candy up.

A 6600GT is another good alternative, but of course, is simply unobtainable on a $100 budget. You really need to wait until you have $200-250 to make a worthy upgrade of the GF4. The problem here is that new $100 video cards suck from a performance perspective, and a GF4 doesn't. If you hadn't bought such a good video card as you did improvements would be a lot easier at this juncture.

Welp, if you note my sig, I have a FX5900 (flashed to 5950). And before that I had, you guessed it, a Ti4400. So I have some basis for my statements (beyond the numbers on a chart). The reality is the FX5900 is only a small amount faster in raw speed (mine does ~18,000 on 3DMark 2001 where my Ti4400 did ~16,500), and you better have a lot of cpu power if you expect to turn that into better fps in game.

FX5900s do support DX9 and its bevy of advanced features. But the FX5900's performance starts to wilt if you enable them, so like I said, it's not really a huge improvement over the Ti4400 unless your usage fits a very specific profile--either big cpu/no detail or high detail/don't care about fps.

5900 will totally destroy a 4400. I have a 5900 now and it's extremely fast. I would avoid turbo cache at all costs. I would also avoid the 5700LE. It's likely no faster than your 4400, and maybe slower. It's a gimped version of the 5700 (the LE model).

If you can't get at least a 5900, don't get anything. It's not going to be worth it.
