Hey guys i am upgrading an old slot 1 system it currently has a slotket adapter that allows it to accept socket 370 CPUs and it has a 366 celeron running at 413Mhz. The computer is only used for web browsing and she just wants it to be a bit quicker. The mobo is going to stay the same i am just trying to get her the fastest proc her mobo will accept and add some more ram. It has an Abit LM6 mobo, what is the fastest processor it can support? According to the manual it only supports PII---233Mhz-333Mhz and Celeron 266Mhz processor, but that is just through the regular slot 1. With the slotket adapter what is the fastest i can use, it looks like it is an Abit brand slotket adapter but i can't find any specs on it anywhere. Any info is greatly appreciated....TIA

You may be able to use P3's(not likely) but even if you can, P3's are like $150 now. You can get a 1.8ghz duron for $40 and a socket a board for $50ish.

Ohh, if you cant support P3's, you can usualy find slot P2's of around 400mhz for $20ish.

I don't plan on getting the highest speed P3 just like a 750 or 800 which i can get for less then $40.

Can anyone confirm if i can use a P3?

I thought the LM6 was a socket 370 Celeron board that did not support 100 FSB CPUs.

From what the manual shows it supports 66, 75, and 83Mhz CPUs. It doesn't mention supporting 100Mhz anywhere, i just want to know if the slotket adapter can make using a 100Mhz FSB CPU/P3 possible.

It only supports 66, 75, and 83FSB.

You could drop in a PIII-800 and leave your FSB at 75, it would give you a PIII~600. That's assuming it would recognize the processor at all. Which it may not.

-_-... my my, just get a cheap amd mobo and proc... at the computer shows around me they sell mobos from business machiens that have been upgraded for like, $15 (they were AMD760's) and as for the cpu's, well, u can find one for around 40 on newegg prolly

I really dont see any point in throwing money into something like that for such a minimal boost - that's just my opinion tho ;)
