i have just upgraded from windows 98se to windows 2000 and am largely put down by the fact that i cant find a way to have it to default to just one user, well sort of. i have only admin installed as a user, and want it to act like windows 98 i.e. only one set of settings for the whole comp...i dunno if im missing something. the reason why i posted on this forum as opposed to the OS forum as i know this forum is used more often and i am really in desperate need of a quick answer.

cheers for ya help.

You could just make the admin acct your own..change the name..give it a p/w..and it'll be like one account (that or disable it)

..those are the options that I know of..there may be more..

I don't think you can get rid of admin and if you can, the computer wont like it :)

hmm...so no c:\winnt\desktop , c:\winnt\start menu cos its annoying ....some programs get shortcuts put in 'all users' and some dont go in the admin folder settings....its quite annoying....still, thats windows 2000 for ya

When you go to edit the users, tell the computer to always assume that the following user: whatever your name is, is always logged on, and you won't have to enter a password when you boot up. It will bring up the dialog greyed out and then go into windows.

I know there's an option for this when you're in Win2K setup..... Something along the lines of "automatically log on this user" or something like that
