USB C Connector?

Ok explain to me what is thunderbolt and what devices use it?
Isn't that an "Apple" standard? I think it provides power and data to both charge your device and display graphics and network traffic and.... on and on. It also uses a USB-C style connector but has a slightly different pin-out. I also think that they are (at least generally) compatible with each other.

I think that the newest standards of Thunderbolt and USB-C are close in speed.

Edit: here's what 10 seconds of google got me. https://www.pcmag.com/news/thunderbolt-3-vs-usb-c-whats-the-difference

I guess I just don't understand that connector I bought an ASUS Z790-H MB and it has lots of different colored usb ports one of them has to be a fast connection.

So.........again.......... Thunderbolt is a faster protocol than USB3.2 (not USB4). TB4 runs up to 40 Gbps using a Type-C connector (see my link that covers the different types of USB connections). USB 3.2 Gen2x2 runs up to 20 Gbps, but the new USB4 runs up to 40 Gbps as well. Like Don mentioned, in order to get the most out of the connection, both ends need to be Type-C or you're limited to Type-A speeds.

Also, TB4 (and I believe USB4) offers more power. It can charge laptops, power monitors and be the data pipe for monitors as well (instead of DisplayPort, for example).

Uses - fast charging, fast data transfer between fast devices, powering/charging laptops/monitors, data cable for video (think external GPU to laptop, or laptop to monitor).

For reference, all of this was covered previously in the thread, by posts or my link.

The "Lightning" connector is an apple thing (and NOT Type-C). Thunderbolt is not... the rest of what you said is spot on. ;)

WHAT connector? We've talked about several already... you need to be specific!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have seen Motherboards use different colors. White being USB 2 and older. Blue being USB 3 and newer. Red and yellow for specific things that they included for options like "Fast charging" USB BIOS loading (when the BIOS is bricked) and other such things.

For this, you'll need to read the manual. I almost typed RTFM but you get the point. White and blue are standard colors. The others are manufacturer specific.

Exactly (RTFM!).... or look at the specs page for that board on its website. All the info is there. :)

From your mobo's website..........

You have TWO Type-C ports on the rear IO (20 Gbps and 10 Gbps), and one 20 Gbps connector for front panel Type-C. You DO NOT have Thundebolt natively on this machine. You'd need to buy an expensive card and attach it to the Thunderbolt HEADER (#17 from the image in your manual below).

Thank you. I like how you displayed the MB.
