I noticed my usb hardrive sometimes becoming active (hearing activity inside it) even when i wasn't doing ANYTHING to it or accessing data from it.

so i did a little test....

i DELETED every single file from it, formatted it and just left it there plugged in.

Sure enough while playing a game on my internal hardrive i hear my usb hardrive clicking around for a few seconds and see the activity light blinking then it stops....

what is accessing it.... theres NOTHING on it to be accessed.....

Its probably windows or whatever your OS is doing its thing. Indexing, calculating space, etc. My HDD light on my computer blips every sec when it just sits here with nothing running. Its just what they do. If you are worried you could put a file on the drive so it has something to look at or un plug it.
