i have a p4p800 dlx and i was wondering should i use the onboard lan or just stick my ethernet card in it??

i'm using it, the 3COM is great at least for me... cpu usage doesn't seem too high... unless you have a GREAT ethernet card laying around, stick with the onboard... my 2c...

NO IDEA.... you could try benchmarking it... at least easily by making a more or less long transfer and checking your CPU usage... see what has the lowest usage, keep that one and disable/remove the other one

I used to get some oddball hiccups now and then. Fpr no reason one day I put my old lan card back in and disabled the onboard and the weird occasional hiccups have since quit. Can't explain it and they might be unrelated, but that card is still installed.

my epox 8rda3+ has 2 lan ports and i use both,
1 gose out to my girlfriends puter and i've never had a problem.
good and fast.

yeah and if it is 3Com , you really cant get much better than that ,
I always use the onboard lan , it works very well .
I would not get rid of your dlink , just in case

I had a D-Link 538tx NIC from my P4PE machine and I tried the onboard lan on my P4P800 before comparing it to the NIC card. I went right back to the onboard 3Com as I found it to be superior. Stable as Mable for me.

yeah stick w/ the onboard, 1 less thing to worry about.
i've never had any problems w/ my P4PE w/ lan raid sound board, it plays 16 person unreal tourney 2003 death matches just fine

Im having problems with the onboard lan on my p4p800 deluxe.
I have it enabled in bios, installed the drivers off the cd (tested downloaded drivers too) connected cable to it but it says it doesnt find a connection :bang head and thus cant make a connection.
So im using an ethernet card atm but i really want to use the onboard lan but cant seem to find the problem (maybe the connector is busted?)

:(

I had the same problem with the inboard P4C800 dlx. Intermittent connection. I kept getting error messsages saying "network cable unplugged" when I knew damn well it wasn't! It would be working fine and I'd have to reboot, and there it went. Sometimes, If I went into network connections and toggled enabled/disabled several times it'd catch, but that got to be a pain, so I stuck in the old Lan card. Haven't had problem since then.

Onboard LAN has been good for me so far .. my d/l speed went from ~250kb/s to 360kb/s.

..not sure why but i'm sticking to it.
