Wouldn't using something like brasso for a finishing compound go completely against lapping????
I would think that a polishing compound would decrease heat transfer? Or am i just wrong? Any imputt

ps - just read this on a friends website dont wanna say anything to him before i can confirm this:cool:

Using a metal polishing compound is definitely a bad idea for heatsinks. Sure it will leave the finish much nicer looking, but it will also leave residue and result in detrimental effects to the heat transfer.

It has also been proven that a mirror finish is worse than a slightly rough one temp wise.

I beg to differ on that. One site did and experiment where they had a sample size of one and claimed a certain outcome. Nothing has been sufficiently investigated with regards to this to make any kind of conclusion.

But Brasso IS BAD for finishing a lapp job.

Friends don't let friends do Brasso. :D

Agree with that. Don't agree with the level of lapping (I.e. mirror like finish).
