At the moment I have a 512k connection at a ratio of 1:50
it's slow for online games, pings aren't all that good aswell...

I can upgrade to 1:30 for an extra £5, but will it actually effect my gaming speed, I learnt that the contention ratio means how many people are connection to one pipeline? =/
The less people, the more bandwidth, also would the 1:30 connection have a lower ping? although it's the same speed?

If your upload is saturated, then unsaturating it would give you a better ping. If it is completely clear, and upgrade wouldn't make a difference - online games use hardly any bandwidth at all.

If something is using up all your upload though, you should find out what it is. Otherwise you might by the faster line and it'll just expand and use all your upload on that also.
