Oaky, after seing a .04 drop in idle from set voltages and a full .1 volt drop in load volts, I decided enough is enough, Im a gonna mod me a board.

So i read through the threads at XS, where Johnny Bravo says how to do it.

Today I went to radio shack. Bought an autoranging DMM, a new soldering iron (cheap soldering station, but was best they had, and made sure it had the smallest tip in the store) I have leaded solder already with my old iron (tip is HUGE on that monstrosity) and since they did not have 1k variable resistors... I grabbed a 650ohm fixed resistor since Bravo said that was where you wanted to set the Variable too anyway.

I was looking for any advice before tackling this as if I ruin the mobo I cant get a replacement till january. I am familiar (not great) at soldering, as I built and worked RMA for a company that produces handheld computers (if you have seen a carlson explorer we make them and brand it for them) thats just one of about a hundred types of unit we sell, but is the high end side. Have done pot work too but I really suck at that (good enough to fix my mistakes usually though)

So any things to look out for? tips on how to insulate the resistor after its mounted? how much would trimming the legs effect the resistance? OR is that what I have to figure out wit hteh DMM?

Thanks

Well looks like this is getting put off.

Just brought my PC home yesterday. Plugged it in last night right before bed, and all it does is trip the breaker. LOL

I think I need a less powerful PSU.

Hoping its just a connection came loose while in the car
