Venice won't work with NF3/4 boards??!!

Hmmm they claim to be right all along. Inquirer states hardware issues, while companies states things can be fixed via a simple bios upgrade. How do they consider themselves to be "right all along?" Bunch of idiots

How does this BIOS update required thing work for new adopters? I never had to deal with this, but I am sure some have. Sure in this case you may actually be able to flash to a new bios with the Venice CPU, but what if even that was not possible. WHat do vendors do to prevent this type of RMA situation from happening until the boards start shipping with updated BIOSes? Is there any warning posted on the product specs say at New Egg? Will they send you a board with the correct BIOS if you RMA? With the DFI board it seems like 3 weeks is not enough time to get the new BIOSes into the supply chain and completely replace the 1/25 loaded boards.

It probably isn't enough time, but there's nothing DFI can do about it. I haven't seen anyone say the board wasn't bootable w/ an E0 core installed either. If you or anyone else ends up w/ a board and no way to flash the bios to work w/ venice, send me the bios chip and I'll flash it for you and send it back, or order a bios savior and send me that to flash for you.

That is a very nice offer TimoneX, but it really reminds me to order a bios savior. Nan, we all should own one of those.

Indeed. I recommend ParagonCA. They shipped me mine and sent me a tracking # within an hour of ordering. Terrific service after having problems w/ mwave for a month.

Which one did you get for your board? Will it work on DFI-SLI?

RD1-PMC4. I still believe the discontinued RD1-8X will work as well, but don't order it from mwave because they'll send you an RD1-8X2 which will not work.

Something perhaps overlooked in this hullabaloo about nothing - as I stated earlier all mobo manufacturers have had samples of rev E cpus since October (so that will be 6 months now) - so if any company has not come up with a bios fix by now then frankly that company is not worth doing business with! In the Inquirer report note the use of PAST tense for any problems that may have existed.
Some people wet their pants over the slightest thing - honestly!

If the vendors (such as newegg, zzf, ...) and the motherboard manufacturers are smart, then they should work together and include a bios chip with the latest official version that supports Venice in each motherboard package. This can be done after the boards are already in the sale channels at the vendor level.

E.g. the DFI LP UT NF4 boards are shipped with a bios chip removal tool but without a bios (saver) chip.

If each board is shipped with a new bios chip plus the bios chip removal tool which can also be used as a bios saver, this would save them lots of RMA, phone support, ..., in return for that extra cost (few $), they would have lots of happy and satisfied customers, outstanding boards, and potentially better sales, ....

The Inquirer makes a bios-flash sound like such a big issue... I can't imagine somebody would have actually thought they would run the chips without one! :bang head

I actually wrote to MSI about a week ago asking if they had any comment on whether or not the new E0 cpus will be compatible with neo2 ms7025 and they responded by saying that, and i quote, "we have not tested this new type cpu yet and we can not confirm if there is a BIOS released later for supporting this type CPU's"

They then said sorry for any inconvenience caused and gave me 2 links. 1 for supporting cpu's and 1 for bios information. But hey, maybe that's because im a nobody to them and the info's a bit hush-hush at the mo so failed to see a reason to let me know anything.

Or it could be that the tech support person you spoke to is completely clueless! We already know that Venice is compatible with the Neo.

lol yeah i think we've all had the experience of clueless tech support. I remember when i got my neo2 i was told it will need updated bios to run winchester - but it ran just fine and was recognized correctly by cpu-z as well.

That is actually a good point, but then people will have to tamper with hardware. I doubt they'd let customers handle that much, especially because it would be the companies *** since they gave the tools. In turn, it may just be more harmful.

For the DFI LP NF4 boards, there is a bios chip removel tool included in each motherboard package, but no extra bios flash chip (otherwise it would be outstanding).

So what is the intent of DFI to ship the bios chip removal tool if they don't expect the customers to use it, including warranty coverage.

I thought DFI was claiming it was for removal of the SLI & Vdimm jumper blocks. I find them to be of very limited use at any rate.

Maybe I was mistaken it was a bios chip removal tool.

PS:

I looked at that tool again, it is exactly the same as a bios chip removal tool.

For removing those VDIMM jumpers, I just use my fingers, ....

Strange enough, that tool is not listed in the motherboard package list of the manual which even lists the DFI sticker as an item.

I cannot find in the manual where DFI says officially what that tool is for. Can someone find and confirm where it is mentioned officially, for removal jumpers or bios chip, ...?

Though this is not directly relevant to this thread, but the bios chip removal tool that comes with the DFI package may be used for changing to a new bios chip for Venice, so post here, ....

it is a bios chip removal tool.

I can guess why they didn't provide the additional bios chip. it's probably the cost or maybe because of warranty. If you screw up on swapping the bios chip, they may have to be responsible for your screw up.
